Elizabeth Warren Bashes GOPer Who Called Reporter 'Sweetheart'

By DANIEL STRAUSS Published SEPTEMBER 27, 2014, 2:33 PM EDT

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) strongly criticized Massachusetts Republican gubernatorial nominee Charlie Baker for calling a female reporter "sweetheart."

Warren's criticism of Baker came in a fundraising email for Attorney General Martha Coakley, the Democratic candidate for governor in Massachusetts.

The fundraising pitch centered around an interaction Baker had with a local Massachusetts reporter who was asking the Republican gubernatorial candidate about his opinion on how National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell has handled a number of domestic violence scandals concerning NFL players. At one point Baker said "this is going to be the last one sweetheart." Baker later apologized to the reporter.

Warren's email began by citing Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) who pointed out, according to Warren, "sometimes she feels like she's living in a Mad Men episode."

And Coakley better NOT blow this one...I'm still livid with her for running that pathetic campaign for the Senate against Scott Brown. Handing Ted Kennedy's seat over to a Republican which nearly-derailed Kennedy's life-long goal of achieving health insurance reform.

Calling a female reporter "sweetheart" is not a minor matter. It is derogatory, condescending and putting the little woman in her place. It's what the GOP does best.

a man (R) running for Governor of our Great State of Massachusetts , to a female reporter at a news conference, that was her job! It was most defiantly demeaning.

As for Irish Ayes, In_The_Wind and Jill Biden, they are women.

Hey Nye are you a guy?

Ever heard of nuance~

Dear goddess what some people go on about here. You don't think the GOP demeans women, Nye? There is no war on women by the GOP, Nye? How about the GOP version or is it there vision of rape, Nye? Seriously?

Why are you attacking me here? I don't get the attack.

This isn't about a familiar and complimentary use of the word. This is about a PATRONIZING use of the word, and everyone in the Commonwealth gets it.

This sweethearting nitwit is the asshole who said that the Hobby Lobby decision "doesn't matter." Oh, really?

This is about a guy putting down a working reporter by minimizing the importance of her question to him by using the term.

If it wasn't a big deal, why are people still talking about this? It didn't happen yesterday. And even his apology was a total eff-up:

http://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/blog/2014/09/25/charlie-baker-sweetheart-apology-turns-sour/

When the incident is put in CONTEXT, that context being the dismissive attitudes and offensive comments of this nitwit in past interactions, Baker comes off looking like the Republican sexist asshole that he is. And anyone defending him needs to understand that.

Lady last night at Dunkin Donuts said: "What can I get for you, hon?"

She was very nice, and actually made me feel better being in the bad mood I was in.

I try not to say those terms to other people because I know it makes some uncomfortable, but I don't mind when people call me those names.

Or worse, your BOSS addressed you in that fashion?

Hey, sweetheart--I need those reports...and get me a cup of coffee while you're at it!

This isn't the first time he's been dinged for being a sexist ass.

condescending ad that purports to show a "conversation" between him and his daughter (neither one can act their way out of a paper bag), where he says he's "pro choice" like he deserves a pat on the head, a gold star, and an extra cookie, or something.

This "sweetheart" remark has been a topic of conversation in the Bay State since he opened his dumbass mouth--glad Warren is keeping the ball in the air. It can't be reiterated too often, that this guy is a Romneyesque jackass when it comes to issues of interest to women and POC.
