Secret Service scandal rocks Obama trip

By DONOVAN SLACK | 4/13/12 10:43 PM EDT Updated: 4/13/12 11:55 PM EDT

Up to a dozen Secret Service agents in Colombia for President Barack Obama’s trip there have been relieved of their duties amid allegations of misconduct.

The Secret Service did not detail the accusations but said they did not affect security for the president, who landed in the country Friday for a weekend at the Summit of the Americas.

The Associated Press reported that the allegations involved prostitutes. The actions happened before the president’s arrival on Friday, the AP reported, citing unnamed sources.

“There have been allegations of misconduct made against Secret Service personnel in Cartagena, Colombia prior to the President’s trip. Because of this, those personnel are being relieved of their assignments, returned to their place of duty, and are being replaced by other Secret Service personnel,” Edwin Donovan, Secret Service spokesman, said in a statement.

It may have been only ONE or TWO that are allegedly involved.

Apparently ALL 12 in the unit were pulled off duty - but no one has said that all were involved

Ed Henry ? @edhenryTV

for early retirement.

But regardless, I'm kind of surprised. I thought these people took their job VERY seriously. A friend of mine was engaged to an SS guy and she said they had a fit when a US flag touched the ground. VERY seriously. Surprised one would risk it while on duty.

And, like my friend from TX, wondering if the guilty one(s) vote Dem or Republican.

Interesting story.

....something that could even have frightening implications for security?

Or did I watch too many episodes of 24 a few years back?
