Appreciation thread for the health care workers who are on the front lines

There's been a lot of bashing of health care workers in general and nurses in particular in the last few days, much of it based on erroneous reporting blaming nurses for mistakes made by executives in charge.

Anyone who will take care of an Ebola patient deserves our gratitude and appreciation, I don't think all of us would or could do that.

Here's to nurses, doctors and all the others who actually take care of us when we are sick.

Could we please focus on where the problems are, it's not the nurses, it's the system and those who manage it.

The non-medical staff in our nation's hospitals and airline/terminal maintenance fields help make the entire system operate efficiently.

They are just as potentially exposed to occupational hazards while ensuring general public welfare safety.

Often for far less compensation.

h/t to these employees as well...

Stay safe nurses, and please don't put yourself in danger because some bean counter threatens you. What most people are forgetting is that, most especially in a hospital, it is the nurses who handle the cases. Doctors sort of flit by every so often, but nurses deal with the tough stuff.

PS. If you do care for an ebola patient, please don't travel. There's nothing in the world that can't wait.

We want to keep our patients breathing well, the Respiratory therapists will insert and withdraw breathing tubes, we Rad Technologists will take the images to make sure the tubes/lines and your lungs are clear. Hospital Housekeepers get no honor, no respect by mgmt. and often crap pay. How much was it worth to have the biohazard bags carefully and properly, safely disposed of. I bet that staff were barely above minimum wage .

eminences grises behind Occupy Wall Street) David Graeber bears directly on your theme here:

http://strikemag.org/bullshit-jobs/

From an interview Graeber subsequently gave comes this little jewel:

Suddenly it became possible to see that if there's a rule, it's that the more obviously your work benefits others, the less you're paid for it. CEOs and financial consultants that are actually making other people's lives worse were paid millions, useless paper-pushers got handsomely compensated, people fulfilling obviously useful functions like taking care of the sick or teaching children or repairing broken heating systems or picking vegetables were the least rewarded.

I can't praise your words here highly enough.
