SIGN THE PETITION (at link)
We call on Jimmy Johns to end their oppressive non-compete policy that prevents sandwich makers and cooks from getting jobs at any place that makes sandwiches even years after leaving the company. Its time for Jimmy Johns to stop treating workers like property and get rid of this policy not to mention pay a living wage.

(4,112 posts)management, design, and research people who really would have the ability to damage a business, and typically came with a commensurate compensation element.
In Jimmy John's case, it's clearly meant to be intimidation. There's no business harm that they could suffer and few, if any, "business secrets" to impart. We're talking assembling cold cuts, for criminy sakes. If challenged, it wouldn't hold up, but most of these part-timers would probably be too scared to try, not to mention not have the resources for the legal advice.
But if some lawyer challenged this as a pro-bono attorney on behalf of some JJ's employee the resulting shitstorm of embarrassment would be a wonderful thing to see.

Unless they have some sort of special sauce that's more than ketchup and mayo or Thousand Island dressing what possible trade secret/competitive advantage info would someone at that level have access to?

(5,417 posts)I think a non compete makes sense for a CFO. They dont want them to take all inside info and go work for subay.
It makes no sense for a entry level employee.
dilby
(2,273 posts)for a sandwich maker, it would cost them a ton of money to enforce and it's not worth it for an employee who makes minimum wage. For their senior level employees that work in their corporate office they would definitely enforce it.

(12,958 posts)My daughter worked there for a year and she was required to sign this stupid thing, I remember her talking about it. That was a few years ago.
As if their sandwiches are top secret or something, all you have to do is order one if you wanna know how it's made. Stupid.
