One rioter, Steven French, told the Keene Sentinel that he traveled from Haverhill, Massachusetts to attend the festival because he knew it would be “f*cking wicked.”
“It’s just like a rush. You’re revolting from the cops,” he continued. “It’s a blast to do things that you’re not supposed to do.”
The police viewed the behavior of French and his cohorts less favorably, barricading streets and firing tear gas into crowds in an effort to disperse them.

The Boston Brewing Company (makers of Samuel Adams) had just debuted the latest incarnation of their Utopia beer which topped out at 40%. And they had made the cardinal mistake of rolling out the samples at the end of the show on Friday night. I can tell you that a near riot almost broke out. That was one time where I was actually glad there were lots of police present, otherwise that could have turned really ugly really quickly. 
The funny thing is that I bet that they still use footage from that night in their commercials.

Is a black person using valleyspeak less amusing than white people flashing gang signals, and if so, why?
Is it similar to the drag phenomenon, whereby men dressing up as women is funny, but women dressing up as men is not?
Feminists argue that men in drag is funny, because the men are debasing themselves by appropriating the dress of the inferior gender. They compare it to minstrelsy when white people donning blackface was considered funny. However, there were black minstrels as well (who were often preferred as being more "authentic"
as well as black performers who got laughs by affecting a feeble impersonation of whites (the "zip coon" stereotype), so the analogy does not really hold up very well.
In that sense, one can perceive a difference between the performer and the performance being the butt of the joke. In the case of Zip Coon, the joke is in the hopeless inadequacy of the performer's attempts to appear white. In the case of the white blackface performer, the joke is the mannerisms themselves, the performance is intended to be representative, and the joke is aimed at black culture itself.
Drag performers distinguish between high and low drag (or drag seria and drag buffa). In the case of low/comedy drag, it is apparent that the performer is male, the joke is on him rather than on the female image he is attempting. The makeup is garish but not convincing, the gestures are camp and theatrical but not representationally female.
But serious drag is serious. Those performers are generally transgender, stunningly beautiful, and indistinguishable from any other female. There is no inadequacy in their attempt, and therefore no comedy.
In the case of white people flashing gang signals, the joke is on the white people. They are trying to look like tough black gangsters, when they are really namby pamby white boys from the suburbs. The joke is in their inadequate posturing to look like tough criminals. The unspoken text is that if a black person flashes a gang signal, that their attempt to look like a tough criminal is automatically considered authentic. This is the dilemma that has faced many a minority. Young Italian men used to sound off like Joe Pesci from Goodfellas and would strut like mafiosi. Doing so carries stigma, but it also carries swagger and machismo, and these are things that young men covet, whatever their ethnicity.
In the UK, politicians are mocked whenever they attempt to use working class accents to speak to that audience, but conversely, working class people who adopt posh accents are also mocked. However, in the US, a white person who sounds black is funny, whereas a black person who sounds white is not. I'm not sure how to account for that difference, perhaps nervousness/political correctness has something to do with it, perhaps its something more.
"dude", "like", "totally" (or "totes" , "whatever" (or "whatevs" , "sweet" (sometimes), "oh my god", "ewww", "sooo", etc etc.
The damn shit has even infected my speech, I find myself occasionally using "like" as a hedge.
I also like the word "motherfucker". No other word has such a satisfying cadence to it: MUTH-er-FUCK-er. That's African American. "Cool" is African-American as well, I think. Is using words such as "cool" appropriating black culture? I'd say that probably the horse has bolted on that one, it became generic quite some time ago.
I think that these inflections become pervasive because they satisfy a need, and presumably do so better than other, alternative speech patterns. Or in other words, a white guy says "motherfucker" for the same reason that a black girl says "OMG totally".

We live as a subculture in a dominant culture and we survive it.
You, a male, in a foreign country. - without our rich life experience mean well - but you don't see or understand our world and how we navigate for it. You don't intend to display arrogance and dismissal - but it's often how it can come across. It's sort of like talking with Newt Gingrich. He means well - but he knows what he knows and can't see us as full human beings with valid experiences, and voices to share.

I didn't even remotely suggest it, you should check yourself and think that over, it wasn't me.
But then I worked for years with members and former members of gangs, including Hispanic, Asian, and Black gangs, and gangs that were not dedicated to a single race.
Mostly, these people pictured at the website are imitating what they've seen in pop culture, and it's not something that's done only by white people.
Do some of them know what the hand gestures represent? I would guess that only in the minority of cases are they familiar with the "two in the pinker one in the stinker" gesture, or "the forks".
I don't think these picture sets represent the brightest among American citizens.
Only black folks at DU telling white folks at DU some inconvenient truths are offensive.
