He never thought he'd do it - but he did. You won't believe what happened next.

Anyone else tired of click bait headlines that don't give you any goddamn context to the article?

This new trend in social media is driving me crazy and it's engulfing even legitimate media nowadays. It's ridiculous. It needs to stop. I don't need a goddamn vague sentence that tells me absolutely nothing about the video I'm about to watch, the photo I'm about to see or the story I am about to read.

Be upfront. Tell me.

No, I don't want to read the story about the man who had enough and finally did something about 'it' - just to find out it was bricking his mailbox so he didn't receive junk mail anymore.

Seriously. WTF is happening here?

3. Shit, man, they have been doing this on the news for years now!

They use outrageous headlines and tell you in the first 30 seconds about some ginormous catastrophe that just happened a few minutes ago, and then they don't even talk about it for another 12 minutes!!
And even then, they only talk about for about 30 seconds before they take a break for a commercial.

I can't watch the local news anymore.
They do that sort of thing all of the time here.
"The mayor may be in big trouble and his job may be in jeopardy!"
And then you come to find out that 3 old enemies of his that are just Republican jerks are upset about the mayor asking for a study for new bikelanes on some streets in downtown Boise, and they are threatening to hold a recall election to remove him from office.
Which ain't never gonna happen!

As far as social media is concerned, some people are running short on time.
So, they only cut and paste a title, or make up one that doesn't make sense, and then drop a link in the body of the message.
It's annoying, but it has been that way for quite awhile it seems.

are the "TURN ON CNN RIGHT NOW!!111!!!eleventy!

Even if you've got cable and have a remote in your hand, the segments are designed for morons and are usually over by the time you've read the dumb, content free post.

I suppose I keep hoping the worst offenders will finally offer us a clue as to what earth shattering thing we can't see/just missed, but they never do, not even when the language in subsequent posts demanding a little enlightenment gets pungent.

I don't click on blind links, life is too short for that.

5. "You're going to die a horrible, painful death!!! Tune in at 11 to find out how!"

It's been going on for years. It's called advertising. What they're trying to do is get you to watch that local news program.

When you tune in at 11, after the standard tales of murders, robberies, house fires and petty corruption by small time govt officials - you learn that there's a very, very small chance that a small number of households may have a appliance with minor defect that may cause it to behave unexpectedly, and there is a simple fix to repair said defect. Then they move on to more important things - like sports & weather & cute puppies.
