Israel to vote on partitioning Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews
Muslim prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque
Tuesday, 21 October 2014 13:46
An Arab Knesset member has revealed that there will be a vote in the next month on a law drafted by an Israeli committee regarding the partition of Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews.
Arab MK Masoud Ghanayim was quoted on Monday by Palestinian newspaper Felesteen as saying that "the draft law, which has been prepared by the interior parliamentary committee in the Knesset, stipulates that Jews can perform prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque."
He continued: "This is based on a proposal that gives Muslims and Jews equal rights in their access and use of the holy site. It also specifies certain locations where Jews can perform their prayers."
It is important to note that both Rabbinical and Israeli law currently bans Jews from prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque because of the sanctity of the site for the Jewish religion. Most Jews who lobby to pray there are illegal settlers with a right wing agenda.
The Old City in Jerusalem where Al-Aqsa is located is internationally recognised as occupied land. The Israeli occupation authorities frequently prevent Muslims from praying there.
According to Ghanayim, the same draft law also bans organising civil protests and demonstrations in Al-Aqsa compound, and sets out punishment for any violations...

POS's only reason on this earth is to make certain that the ME is cast into perpetual war with religion as the catalyst... and as long as US taxpayers continue to fund it, it will be so.

(13,088 posts)intended for my post to insinuate.
I will state it differently.
Education; is the best tool to counteract indoctrination and brainwashing.
Children can not make informed decisions when they are never taught the facts.
The United States educational system is a good example.
The history of the United States continues to be whitewashed.
Texas continues to ramp up the revisionist history that our children our being taught.
Religion continues to invade the political arena.
Separation of Church and State is under constant assault.
Policies should be based on facts.
Facts are facts.
It is wrong for the government to do it.
It is wrong for religion to do it.

(19,497 posts)It pretty much sounds like: The US educational system should be constituted of such lessons as are necessary to draw out the pre-determined conclusions of The Deciding Class and those who fail to meet the standard are determined to be "wrong" and shall be subject to such remediation as is deemed appropriate by The Deciding Class.
I'm sorry if that sounds unkind but even with you expounding on your earlier post there seems to be no other end result.
Democracy -- freedom -- allows people to decide who they want to be as individuals and then provides the means by which they may peaceably resolve their disputes while preserving the inherent rights of the political minority. Being "wrong" is a base assumption in democracy. Either the political minority will be wrong and thus out of power, or perhaps the "wrong" people will gain political dominance but they must still preserve the rights of the minority.
I prefer freedom.

(13,598 posts)There are uncountably many facts out there. You *can't* teach children All The Facts, all you can give them is an edited selection that you consider to be representative and valuable.
Hitler was a leader who strengthened Germany's military, reduced unemployment, and improved its road system.
Those are facts, but if your factual education includes those facts and not, say, the holocaust and World War II, it's not doing its job.
So the distinction between "education" and "indoctrination" is not as clearcut as "stick to the facts".
There's a commonly-used platitude, "teach them to think for themselves". People who use it never seem to agree on how that should be taught, however.

(101,271 posts)A bill submitted by MK Miri Regev (Likud), according to which Jews will be allowed to pray on the Mount, and not just tour it, caused alarm in Jordan. Jordan's Ambassador to Israel Walid Obeidat reportedly demanded clarifications from the Foreign Ministry Tuesday on the new bill, following reports that it would be voted on next month.
...
When the Jordanian ambassador in Tel Aviv contacted the Foreign Ministry, reported IDF Radio, the Ministry relayed the matter to the Prime Minister's Office, which told the radio station that the prime minister has repeatedly made clear in recent weeks that there is no intention of carrying out a change in the status quo on the Temple Mount and that the ones causing the provocations are extremist Palestinian elements.

(42,603 posts)The article cited by the OP doesn't say there has been any vote. It says that an Arab member of the Knesset claims there will be a vote next month. How he would come to have this information is interesting since the Knesset has been in recess since the end of July and will not convene for its next session until this coming Sunday. The schedule of matters to be taken up between now and December in the Knesset doesn't list this bill (which apparently was introduced back in April) and an article about this controversy expressly states that the bill hasn't been put to a Knesset vote yet, and it is unclear if it will in the Knesset's winter session, to start next week. http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/.premium-1.622031

(42,603 posts)I am no fan of Netanyahu, but it disserves this board when posters make up shit. The story cited in the OP doesn't mention Netanyahu. Indeed, it clearly states that this is a proposal from a committee of the Knesset (i.e., the legislature). And subsequent posts make it clear that Netanyahu not only isn't behind the idea, he opposes it.
Again, we don't need to resort to misrepresentations to make our points. Or at least we shouldn't.
