DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE CONDEMNS LEAKS

Last edited Thu Oct 23, 2014, 06:59 AM - Edit history (1)

In my humble opinion, the way the police, paper and some officials are handling the Darren Wilson Grand Jury just shows how bad all this is. It is despicable. That entire department needs to be shut down and all officials ousted.

The U.S. Department of Justice condemned the leaks Wednesday as “irresponsible and highly troubling” and said, “There seems to be an inappropriate effort to influence public opinion about this case.”

“There is no way there should be reports from all these anonymous sources and these ‘leaks’ ....This is supposed to play out in the courts and the justice system, and not the media,” said Patricia Bynes, a Ferguson resident and prominent voice in the protest movement. Quoting a popular chant, she added, “The whole damn system is guilty as hell.”

A Justice Department spokeswoman responded in a statement to the Los Angeles Times: “The department considers the selective release of information in this investigation to be irresponsible and highly troubling. Since the release of the convenience-store footage, there seems to be an inappropriate effort to influence public opinion about this case.”

His speech the other day when supposedly calling for healing, was a page right out of the "veiled in caring yet subtly racist" book. Felt like I was listening to a speech from the 1970s or 80s when the racist politicians first learned they couldn't say the "n" word and keep their jobs.

Quite a few DU peeps have been loudly and repeatedly condemning Wilson and the PD for not giving their side of the story or responding to the "eyewitnesses" who "saw" him shot in the back, standing with his hands raised, and other inventions.

Now that they have, why the sudden change in tune?

Evidence not to your liking? Upset that there are other witnesses who've been deposed who contradict the side you picked before the evidence came in? Perhaps you're also forgetting that another group of on-the-scene "eyewitnesses" who saw a sandwich fire 3 shots before it jammed? An apparent mass-hallucination that seemed to resolve upon the production of evidence?

The unthinkable is possible, you know. I mean that the Ferguson police force does deserve a full federal civil rights and criminal investigation, but as with the guy with the semi-automatic sandwich, the MB case was the wrong bandwagon to hitch the cause to.

I am a DU member which has repeatedly and loudly condemned Wilson and the Ferguson PD. For many reasons including giving their side of the "story" or responding to "eyewitnesss".

"But now that they have, why the sudden change in tune?" My tune hasn't changed. I am repeatedly and loudly condemning Wilson and the Ferguson PD.

However, you are mistaken. They still haven't provided an account of what happened, nor responded to witnesses (including an audio witness). You are implying the leaks are the official word. They aren't.

The department should have strict protocols for officer involved shootings. Each action should be documented and the process transparent.

What, PorridgeGun, is the unthinkable? How can you say you believe they are worthy of a full civil rights and criminal investigation if in the same breath you make it perfectly clear the MB case is, in your opinion, justified.

Nothing strikes fear in my heart more than small town Missouri police. You know not what you speak.

Thanks. I would have just lost it. Besides almost every word being factually incorrect, the condescending attitude is completely uncalled for and a rather childish display. (Nicest way I can say that)

The post is about the DOJ condemning the actions of the police, paper, etc. It is not in any way saying that the paid for analysis of the leaks is correct

I was about to edit my post to reflect the story someone posted in the other thread about a kid who recorded two of them brazenly threatening to plant a gun and make him do "hard time" (which he most certainly would..) unless they gave him a name. I'd bet they had a name in mind and after the kid had given it he'd probably have been pressured to testify as well. This sort of underhanded bullshit lands people in prison for decades for crimes they didn't do and I'd bet its SOP for these thugs department wide.

In any case, I believe the police have it coming for that and 1000 other incidents of dogs, family members, homeless people etc. who've been abused, gunned down, died of neglect in jail, I really do. I just think the Mike Brown incident is likely to turn into something sadly similar to the incident where people lied about the 9mm sandwich. Its useless to use Wilson as a proxy to try and punish the whole department if it turns out he's got a bunch of physical evidence and a handful eyewitnesses that not only back his account up but contradict the story the "early witnesses" told.

I've been saying all along (and I admit I could still be wrong on this) that the dept. & Wilson were playing their cards very close to their chest because they had an ace in the hole. If the leaks prove an accurate reflection of the GJ testimony then we know why.. they were certain they had enough evidence & witnesses to contradict the initial accounts to wait for the GJ to hear the case.

I'm also aware small town cops (esp. the ones that run jails in my experience..) live in something of a fantasy world in which court decisions, human rights etc. don't exist and their word is law, but it doesn't mean Wilson didn't act within procedure this time.

We don't know for sure whether the shooting was justified yet, but its not looking good for MB at this point. If they turn out to be leaking lies I'll eat my words.. but I don't think so.

Have they "leaked" that would justify Michael Brown's murder?

There has been no sudden eyewitness we have been told about. There has been no forensic evidence that would justify an unarmed person being gunned down. There has been nothing factual told we didn't already know, just conjecture from paid analysis that spins the autopsy to match the story coming out, supposedly from Wilson.

The only new information is spin.

I notice that stooge McCulloch hasn't said bupkis about these leaks. Hell, for all I know, McCulloch is the leaker.

I was told I was full of it because I said the Grand Jury has reached a decision
on whether they will call for an indictment on Wilson .

This is all bull they are sitting on this and trying to figure out how to slowly release this decision.
They are leaking this stuff so people won't be surprised when Wilson walks away from committing murder.

Any one of us if we had been carrying a gun in our car in the Exact same scenario would be charged and have to face trial.

Should not take place at all. There should be a cop/citizen review board and unless obviously justifiable, the cop goes to court. I understand that there is an inherently greater chance that a cop firing his weapon and killing or hurting someone than there is for the average person. But if a citizen/cop review board can't 100% say it was justified, have a trial.

Special prosecutors don't work either. Look at John Crawford III.

Police are becoming Judge, Jury and Executioner in parallel to the Sci-fi dystopian world of Judge Dredd. It appears the Constitution means little in regressive ignorant Republican America where even the Missouri Democratic Party is mostly regressive. Beware of all of St. Louis they have already shown you the force and coercion they are willing to apply to anyone who gets in their way. If the Grand Jury leaks hold true Michael Brown was most certainly executed without deliberation by a cop who was willing to apply force before he got out of the car. Who needs lethal injection, trials, juries, judges when you have a semi automatic 40 caliber pistol with an 18 round magazine and a cop willing to use it? Public does not like it; you know what is coming when a full automatic machine gun is pointed at you at a news conference or at the scene of the shooting Police bring out M-4 assault rifles while a body lies in the street for 5 hours. Disgusting and outrageous!
