Some Texas prisons making money by forcing video only visitations

There’s nothing nice about jail. The food stinks. There’s nothing to do. People are in a bad mood. The best you can hope for is to get out quickly with minimal hassle. One of the few things you have to look forward to is a visit from a friend or a loved one—a brief face-to-face connection to remind you that the world is waiting on the other side of the glass. But some Texas jails are eliminating in-person visitation and requiring instead the use of a video visitation system sold by Dallas-based Securus Technologies. Critics say it’s an outrageous profiteering scheme that has no policy rationale and could actually deteriorate security at jails.

hates Black people, they can literally take money right out of their pockets, right in front of them, and still get their votes.

Which is why I say racism in America is as bad as it has EVER been.

Less lynchings, sure, but we have people who will advocate against the survival of life on the planet, i.e. anti climate change science, solely because to NOT do so means they have to admit they are wrong about everything, including their racism.

I'm going to guess that the owner of Securus Systems has given a hefty campaign contribution to the relevant state GOP members.

4. Corporate prisons are in reality, corporate imprisonment. Prison for profit should be a human

rights violation and should come under the perview of the ICC in the Hague. But of course the US has refused to sign on to the ICJ accords.

Now you know why the US government boycotts the ICJ. It's not to protect American soldiers from prosecution, at least not the only reason. It is to protect the 'for profit' war and prison systems in the US and in countries within it's sphere of influence.

The prisoners have no constituency. Hardly anyone will come to their defense.

Phone calls, treats and snacks are all at a premium price.
