Tammy Duckworth~ She is a SHERO

Not Hero... A Shero

Ladda Tammy Duckworth (born March 12, 1968) is an American politician who has been the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 8th congressional district since 2013. A Democrat, she is the first Asian American woman elected to Congress in Illinois, the first disabled woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and the first member of Congress born in Thailand.

Duckworth previously served as Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs from April 24, 2009 to June 30, 2011, and as the Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs from November 21, 2006 to February 8, 2009.

An Iraq War veteran, Duckworth served as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot and suffered severe combat wounds, losing both of her legs and damaging her right arm. She was the first female double amputee from the war.[1] Having received a medical waiver, she continued to serve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard along with her husband, Major Bryan W. Bowlsbey, a signal officer and fellow Iraq War veteran.[2] Duckworth retired from the Army in October 2014.

How could you not love this proud and courageous woman.

Such an amazing woman. Courage dignity and honor.

This man tried to take her down.

Rep. Joe Walsh Blasts Double Amputee’s Military Service, Says She’s Not A ‘True Hero’

Though he never joined the military himself, Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) disparaged his Democratic opponent’s military service at a town hall on Sunday, saying that she’s not a “true hero.”

snip

The Tea Party freshman opened the Elk Grove town hall by arguing that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) was reluctant to discuss his own military service in 2008, which made him a “noble hero.” By contrast, “Now I’m running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about,” Walsh said.

WALSH: Understand something about John McCain. His political advisers, day after day, had to take him and almost throw him against a wall and hit him against the head and say, “Senator, you have to let people know you served! You have to talk about what you did!” He didn’t want to do it, wouldn’t do it. Day after day they had to convince him. Finally, he talked a little bit about it, but it was very uncomfortable for him. That’s what’s so noble about our heroes. Now I’m running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about. Our true heroes, it’s the last thing in the world they talk about. That’s why we’re so indebted and in awe of what they’ve done.

Hey, Joe? You would be sniveling under your bed right now if this happened to you. You are a slimy piece of shit that leached out of the sewer to become a Rep. from Illinois. You attacked this woman who has more courage and stamina in her little finger that your entire Teabagging party does.

She won and you sure as hell lost.

and I'll take her on my side any day over the likes of Joe Walsh or any of her distractors for that matter. It is people like her who the word HERO is for.
Thanks for bringing her to my attention this evening.

Tammy Duckworth, Freshman Representative out of Illinois pledged back in February to return a portion of her salary if the sequester happened. As far as I can tell, she was the first to step up in this way (followed by Hagel & Prez).

House members earn $174k anually - Ms Duckworth will return 8.4% - roughly $14,500

I thought of sarcastically asking how long until the right smeared her for her service. Then I got to the bottom of your post. Prediction: the national media does nothing with this. If a democrat said this about a rethug, they would be front page news and their career destroyed

"Surrounded by about two dozen veterans and other Braley supporters, Duckworth, a Democrat who represents a Chicago-area district, praised the Waterloo congressman as a hard-working, and successful, advocate for people who have served in the military.

“This is the real deal when it comes to veterans issues and making sure it’s not just about pretty speeches, because he’s already delivered time and time again,” Duckworth said of Braley"
