Portage students demand contract for teachers
PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) More than one hundred students at Portage Central High School held a protest Thursday morning to show support for their teachers.
Teachers at Portage Public Schools have been working without a contract since June.
Students hold signs during protest in Portage to support teachers.
Students stood outside the Portage schools Administrative Building starting at 7 a.m. holding signs which read We value our teachers, do you? and We love and respect our teachers, so should you.
The protest was organized to last ten minutes, from 7:35 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., to represent the amount of time that teachers are working without compensation every day, according to a student who spoke with 24 Hour News 8.
Many of the students wore green because their teachers have chosen that color to represent their cause.

It does my heart good to see students supporting teachers & teacher's rights in this manner. It makes me hopeful for the future--and the future of unions.
to all of the students that turned out this cold Michigan morning!!!
