Could it be? Yes, it could. Something's coming, something good, If I can wait!Shock at my table/ NC

Last edited Sun Nov 2, 2014, 02:01 AM - Edit history (1)

I have, after the time of the Uniter not the divider one Republican friend left.
In the past, distant though it seems, I not always knew the Politics of my friends, but that has drastically changed in the last decade or so, and my one Republican friend and I have left it at agreeing to disagree in principle and that we would not discuss Politics ever or the damage her only TV channel, Foxx youknowwhat does to her, but I was given permission to send her things to read without comment, and an answer was not expected (and never came).

A large American flag flies at the entrance of the condo. I always resent her having stolen MY flag to make HER point. Her neighbors are also Republican, many more flags, and I know they party and get together and are of one political mindset.

She was at my dinner table tonight.
We - 7 of us - had a lovely time discussing many different things until she dinged her wine glass and asked for our attention:

"I'm in a group tonight where I know I am not going to be chastized for what I am about to tell you. But for reasons all of you are clear on and I am beginning to see the light about I have early voted for Kay Hagan.
My first vote of my life that was not Republican

That's all folks.
Kay Hagan will win NC

Oh, they'll still call themselves Republicans, it beats admitting how gullible they've been all these years. However, you'll see Democratic numbers continue to rise. That's the good thing about the secret ballot, you get to vote to please yourself and lie about it later.

It's a silly question, I suppose, given your years as friends. But if you judge your friendship is strong enough, do you think you can ask her what went into changing her mind? Is there any one thing or a few things that made her cast her ballot for Hagan instead of Tillis?

If you think you would offend her or get her all defensive, never mind. But I'd be curious to find out what influenced her.

I talked to a black woman in North Carolina two weeks ago. She was not of my generation, born after the death of MLK, Jr. and didn't go through the grief of those days. (She was an Obama fan, too!)

She was so much more confident than myself. I said I was concerned that youth were not taught the history. But she said the older folks were talking to the young people and she was sure they would once again overcome.

It eased my heart, like your post, and I think you for it.

Practically all of my local friends are Republicans - that's just the way it around here. Those who were Democrats either married Republicans and/or weren't interested enough to keep their own counsel.

Since we usually meet in our homes for charity work, I neither insult them in their homes or as guests in mine.
They know where I stand, and I speak up on occasion to correct factually incorrect information, but no arguing.

Despite my lifetime loyalty to Democratic principles, tied in with my education in social justice, I value long-time friends, which are not easily replaced as we age.

As if transported from another time and another place, some Republicans are beginning to shake off the urge to vote the same way they have for years. In some cases, for decades. Knowing that they don't have to admit how they voted to other friends or members of their family, they cast their vote in secret, wondering if they are making a change for the better.

Usually, their readiness follows some difficulty, struggle, or unhappiness that shakes things up in their thinking. That's why I never give up hope on any Republican, no matter how stupid and stubborn they seem. The rabid Republicans have become so absolutely VULGAR in the last few years that decent, fair-minded people, who have for years voted Republican, are getting disgusted with bullshit like suppressing the vote and not supporting raising the minimum wage. Those people go into the super market and see that a loaf of bread is now $5. They know that children and grandchildren cannot afford college. They are struggling too.

There is absolutely no doubt. The Koch brothers have spent so much money in NC that the place is swimming in it. All the local news channels are Fox-lite, and the rural dem parties are OPENLY infiltrated by conservative republicans (formerly called southern Democrats).

The central tabulators are all being hovered-over by republicans.

Even in the rain, wind and cold (unusual for NC this time of year) yesterday lines were long as we did PM Duty.

Reverend Barber's efforts to get so many involved with the issues and I'll give a cred to maybe a last minute GOTV by Bill Clinton coming on Friday to a rally in Raleigh. Plus Hillary did some fund raising for Kay in Charlotte.

This isn't going to be 2010's weak turnout given the latest voting numbers. And, EV has been cut back (by the Repugs) so people really are worked up to get to the smaller number of sites and more limited voting hours.

So far....looks good.

the morons have been putting up Tillis signs all over the place up here. But right next to it, they put a "Fire Kay Hagan" sign. The way that sign is laid out, they put the word "fire" at the top,on it's own line, so I just pull up the "Fire--" sign, and place it right behind the Tillis sign so the word Fire looks like part of the the Tillis sign.

They are also putting up a sign that reads" Hagan = Obamacare" I passed by one that somebody spray painted the word "yes!" on it. I don't think the GOP morons believe that sign can be read two ways.........

Nov 2014

I have several acquaintances who are Republicans and close relatives who are still fighting the civil war and sadly to say really racists. But as they say God gave me my relatives but I am free to chose my friends.

I don't see how any conscientious person could claim a Republican is their friend when the Republican Party wants to cut food assistance to children, the disabled and aged, repeal the ACA, privatize Social Security to enrich the Wall Street robber barons, repeal the Federal Wage Law, refuse to provide expanded Medicaid, cut unemployment insurance, what to get rid of the EPA, NASA, Department of Education, IRS, control women reproductive rights and provide massive tax breaks for the 1%. I further don't comprehend how these people claim to be Christians when they are determined not to help the poor and disadvantaged but rather starve them to death and refuse to provide them with adequate medical care so they can watch them suffer as they gloat over their superiority.

When these people have the ability to control government, ranging from local school board elections, city, state and federal government by gerrymandering and obstruction, the future of the Republic is much in question.

No, I don't have any Republican friends.

Chose: "Not sure"

Just kidding!

Chose Kay Hagan of course. It first asked whether you were going to vote for Kay Hagan....or Thom Tillis. Press 1 for Tillis, press 2 for Hagan.

I don't know if I'm reading into this but what was curious to me was how they juxtaposed the names and number key options....ostensibly to trip us Dems up?

They then asked for what sex I am and my age.

Anyway, the real poll is tuesday the 4th. I already voted though.
