Everyone needs to chill the heck out! We are not gonna lose Louisiana. We are not gonna lose Kentucky. We are not gonna lose Georgia. We are not gonna lose North Carolina. We are not gonna lose New Hampshire, etc. (OK, I have far less confidence in my home state, but I still think Pryor is gonna eke out the win. I'm willing to concede that we may lose Colorado and Alaska. Kansas is a "who the heck knows?"
CHILL, PEOPLE!

(6,119 posts)Not only are we going to New Hampshire. We're going to South Carolina and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York. And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan. And then we're going to Washington, D.C. to take back the White House. YAHHHHHHHHHH!

I am optimistic that we will do better than what the corporate press is telling us too.

(72,790 posts)I am one vote in a blue state (CT), and the Senate seats there are not on the ballot this year.

(38,427 posts)Yes, I sent some money, but I can't control who votes in Iowa or Alaska or why they will vote there.
Many have tried to present our message as best as could be ..That is all there is. People vote for lots of reasons, or don't vote. Many vote against their own best interests and think they are doing what is correct. I am not in charge of them. That is the truth.. I can't predict this afternoon's weather let alone what will happen on Tuesday. That is all .....

(25,336 posts)I sent money too. I'm beating myself for not volunteering this year. (Health issues) Yet, what can we do when a senate poll suddenly changes in Iowa of all places?
Your post reminds me of this:
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
I'm heartened by the GOTV stories on DU. Our community can inform voters. It won't influence all votes. It can influence people and make them better citizens.

Sometimes, I worry about this and that.
.And the worry gets very bad.....
.For whatever reasons, we do our best.
What can I really do about votes in Alaska?.. I live in Illinois..I can do, what I can do.
That worry is very harmful to us, because it stops us from doing what we can do.
I am not worry free about this election...
....but..as you pointed out...we here have the wisdom to know the difference.
A very short story if you will...I worked for George McGovern and well...he lost. he lost very very bad. But a few years later, Carter wins, and passes a "seat belt law" which at the time, seemed rather odd. He mandated that all new cars have the belts in 1984...four years after he lost the next election. That mandate, which was followed by the next president, eventually turned into a number of safety features on cars that have saved more lives than the U.S. lost in Viet Nam, and Iraq combined..But, who could have foreseen that when the news reported that McGovern won one state, and lost 49 states?.. That a democratic president would help tens of thousands not only save their lives, but lesson injuries in autos considerably..Carter saved lives, no one gives him credit for...
.In 79, ...53,000 dead in auto accidents...in 2013, 32,000 dead in car accidents. Government regulations that saved tens of thousands of lives. Unthinkable after the 72 election....So, who knows what is going to happen. /?? thanks for reading this, if you got this far...

(72,790 posts)I think a lot of us stress over so many things (non-political ones) and, most times, we really can't control any of it. So, I worry about the things I can control and change. Have a good day.

(114,904 posts)I hope we manage to hold the Senate, but realistically, it is not looking good. The latest polls are discouraging.
<snip>
In Louisiana, Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu is in trouble, too. The NBC News/Marist poll found her at 44% support, but in the state's "jungle primary" she's facing two Republicans -- Rep. Bill Cassidy and tea party candidate Rob Maness. If Landrieu falls short of 50%, she'd face just one of those Republicans in a December run-off -- and without conservatives' votes being split, she'd be the underdog.
The latest survey from the left-leaning Public Policy Polling this weekend also put McConnell ahead, at 50% to 42% for Grimes. PPP also gave Republican challenger Tom Cotton a hefty 49% to 41% lead in Arkansas over Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor.
The GOP is all but certain to win seats now held by retiring Democrats in Montana, South Dakota and West Virginia. They're also favored in Alaska, Arkansas and Louisiana -- states consistently won by Republican presidential candidates.

(46,436 posts)In Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski, we have two of the most moderate members in the Senate. Lisa was elected in a write-in by cross-over Democrats, Independents and Republicans who thought Joe Miller was too radical. The same will hold true for Mark Begich. Everyone knows Sullivan is a plant, and him bringing Ted Cruz up here to stump for him the last weekend before the election just reinforces his allegiance to Tea Party policies. Sure, it will generate some excitement among the fringies, but Alaskans, as a whole, aren't like that.
I could be wrong, and it will probably be close, but I think Mark will win. He's one of us.
