(50,254 posts)But who knows?
This might be a state where "If you keep your health care, the uppity n____r wins" works as a vote pitch.
We can only hope the voters are smarter than that. Working folks should be.

(3,709 posts)The key here is voter turnout... and all we can do is hope.
I watched that debate where this piece of crap said he was going to get rid of Obamacare in Kentucky but we get to keep the pretty website. Allison should have slapped him silly when he said that.
I am trying not to get disillusioned but increasingly the American public is voting against its best interest for these thieves, thugs and charlatans.

"Blechk" or not she is far better than McConnell for this state and for this nation. Would I have preferred another candidate? Yes. Was I unhappy with her answer about voting for Obama? You betcha! But then I am unhappy with all Democrats running from Obama.
I have been surprised at how well she has done and how smart and articulate she is (barring the no answer on voting). Her campaign has been well-run and they have a huge ground effort in place. The majority of her ads have been very well done... all in all... we can't complain about the candidate. It's now up to the voters.... let's hope they come through.
No candidate is perfect, if anyone believes the candidate of their choice is going to agree with them 100% is very naïve. At the moment, she is what we've got... and we're going for it.
BTW.... the restaurant her family owns that the press is going on about "Hugh Jass" is a very popular restaurant right on one of the main intersections of UK. I'm certain the college students love the name and the fun... place is packed every time I've been by.

and that's unconscionable

Meanwhile, there are signs the Kentucky press sees this as a real story. As a very tough editorial in the Kentucky Herald Leader puts it:
As a result of a law that McConnell wants to repeal, one in 10 of his constituents no longer have to worry that an illness or injury will drive them into personal bankruptcy or a premature grave.
Repealing the federal law would also end the Medicaid expansion that is enabling Kentucky to expand desperately needed drug treatment and mental health services. [...]
Kentuckians are waiting to learn if their five-term senator understands or cares how much is at stake

(17,199 posts)Now the Grimes campaign is finally hitting McConnell over his gyrations on the issue, accusing him of voting to destroy Kynect. From Grimes senior adviser Jonathan Hurst:
Mitch McConnell has been in the fantasyland that is Washington for so long that he cannot tell the difference between fact and fiction. McConnell has voted to destroy Kynect and he has said he will do it again. In the U.S. Senate, Alison Lundergan Grimes will fix the law to ensure it is working for all Kentuckians.
I wish she had continued hammering him on this issue. I wish she had done an an all-out ad blitz for the past five months.
Well, now it's just wait until Tuesday and hope!

(21,743 posts)But it doesn't seem like the candidates care that much. Of douse, the only race I am seeing first hand is Colorado, but I haven't heard very much at all about Dems bragging about their own accomplishments or nailing the Repunks on how they have screwed up the country.

(5 posts)would have embraced the ACA from the start; it's been a huge success in Kentucky. Her stance has been, at best, tepid support in her effort to eschew anything remotely related to the President. But on the other hand, she's trying to get elected in the state that's kept McConnell in for 30 years, so...
Instead of harping on Grimes' refusal to admit she voted for Obama (which was admittedly stupid), the mainstream media should have been reporting the outright lies and complete BS spewed by McConnell in that debate and elsewhere. Grimes initially made the voting comment to the Courier-Journal editorial board; McConnell refused to meet with them. In the debate, McConnell said repeatedly that Kynect is a "website" and spewed the "I'm not a scientist" crap on climate change. The MSM should have been all over his ass.
