I posted this on my Facebook page today.....
Im no longer surprised at the lengths Republican politicians have gone to in effort to intimidate or disenfranchise anyone who might vote for Democrats. What continues to surprise me, no, DISGUST me, is the people who continue to vote for politicians that participate in such blatant attempts at voter suppression.
Saying there is no difference in the parties in Washington is a dated and dangerous meme. There is a huge difference. Dont think so? Show me one Democratically held state that has taken any steps toward disenfranchising Republican voters. Show me any Super Pac backing Democrats that is sending out false, misleading and threatening mailers on behalf of the Democratic party. Just one. Show me any good reason for any laws to be passed anywhere that make it harder to vote. And then ask yourself why would anyone want to make it harder to vote. Google voting laws in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, North Carolina and Texas. All states that have Republican controlled Governorship and legislatures. Look at what those states have done to make it harder to vote. In Texas, you can use a concealed weapons permit as valid ID but not a state college ID. WHY? The answers are there if you care to look. Or you can look away and still believe that Republicans are the party of fiscal responsibility, national security and the CONSTITUTION!!
Dont just look at what has happened to voters in those states, but look at what has happened to the middle class. Stripped schools of funding, stripped workers of the right to organize unions, stripped away a womans right to make critical, life altering decisions AND in some cases made it the law for doctors to lie to women who seek advice about abortion. Think its hyperbole? Its not. Look around, the information is out there but you wont find it if you wait for it to show up on your tv screen.
Keep passing along your memes about gun rights, free speech rights, etc etc. But if you arent willing to stand up for the right of people to vote, you are a blistering hypocrite and you should be ashamed of yourself. If you think its OK, because it favors your party, or because those people just want free stuff from the Government, YOU are the problem. Not the people who want to exercise their CONSTITUTIONAL right to vote against a party that has completely sold out most of America and created an oligarchy where there once was Democracy.

(1,606 posts)And every word you've written is fact. Why so many continue to be so deluded and willingly deceived by the machinations of the Grand Oligarchic Party is beyond comprehension. I suppose their vast media echo chamber has effectively hypnotized the masses, promulgated a false consciousness, and reinforced it in the form of extreme ideological dogmatism rooted in fear and loathing as they seek to dismantle or destroying government, create extreme insecurity, and reduce labor to minimimum wage slavery.

(492 posts)If we truly had free press in this country, most of the other issues would take care of themselves. If the truth were pushed as hard as the lies, the Republican party would have to evolve quicker than the dinosaurs to avoid complete extinction.

(28,762 posts)I tell them the story of my immigrant grandfather who was a coal miner in the early part of the last century. FDR was running for president and my grandfather just received his citizenship. The coal mine was ran by an anti union, slave wage paying, no good republican. The coal miners were trying to bring in the labor union. Black Lung, cave ins, low wages, long hours and mine safety were ignored by the owner. All that mattered to him was profits. He threaten the miners if they voted for FDR he would close down the mine. My grandfather not knowing much about American politics or which political party was on the side of the working man, knew from then on that he was a democrat.
There is a huge difference between the two parties. Like my grandfather, people need to ask theirselves which side are you on!

(492 posts)Three likes and no comments. And I don't really care about the stats if it encourages at least one person to do some fact checking before they vote.
A Republican Senate will mean those state experiments in anti-democracy go national.

(17,656 posts)I never thought I would ever hear a Texan say, "let's make it harder to vote in this state", but the Republicans did!!
I think Greg Abbott has about as much of a chance of becoming Governor of Texas as I do!!

(492 posts)I hope you're right, Major. Texas turning blue in any small way would be great, but the governorship??? Whoa Nelly.....Now THAT'S a message! Come on Texas. It's not too late!!!!
