Peters defeats DeMaio in CA.

Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.) on Friday defeated Republican challenger Carl DeMaio in one of the most competitive House races.

The Associated Press called the race for Peters, nearly three days after polls closed Tuesday in the San Diego-based district.
Peters led DeMaio 51.2 percent to 48.8 percent, a nearly 4,500-vote margin.

National Republicans such as House Speaker John Boehner, touted DeMaio, an openly gay Republican, as one of their top recruits of the election cycle.

get this News before Friday is even over out here in the Pacific, Randy. Thank you!

My sister in San Diego called me Wednesday and told me this teabagger had won as her new Rep because that's what her local tv news said Tuesday night.. but lo and behold.. I looked it up Wednesday and the bagger was ahead 700 and something votes but there were still 50,000 Provisional ballots to count.. oooops!

So yesterday, Scott Peters was ahead 861 votes and Hope Was Alive.. I wrote about it in a thread yesterday..

Election Night was awful for @DCCC & House Dems, but late counting has been nothing but great news: #AZ02, #CA07, #CA31, #CA52, #NY25.

My sister's in District 52 in San Diego and went to bed Tuesday night thinking the Repub had won and was kinda devastated.. and told me about it the next day. I ask her for the District and names and looked it up and it turns out the gop was only ahead 700ish votes and they still had 50,000 Provisional ballots to count.. Scott Peters the Dem is ahead today by "861".. they'll announce the winner on Monday.. this, of course, could go either way.. but, Hope is Alive!

6. 2 days before the election DeMaio got accused of exposing himself to an aide

in a restroom -- 2nd such allegation in the campaign.

Given this is the city where Mayor Filner resigned in disgrace among sexual harassment charges and later pled guilty, the electorate was no doubt wary of electing another possible harasser.

This likely explains how Peters is now up by 4,000 votes or so among those absentee ballots turned in at polling places on election day and provisionals, as opposed to earlier returns that had the early ballots.

was devasted because the news told her Tuesday night that DeMaio had one.

I hadn't even heard about it at that point ..so I asked for the names and District and googled it. Whadda ya know.. it was still a toss up with CD ahead by 700 something votes but they still had 50 000 Provisional ballots to count.

So Hope was Alive! And, now this.. so Happy!
