Ahh What the hell, Jerry Brown for President.

Some on DU posted this video http://www.democraticunderground.com/1017225474 a few minutes ago of Bill Maher calling for Jerry Brown to run for president. He main point was ageism in America, but he also pointed out Brown's track record since taking over in 2011. He took over a state government that was a total shambles and is making it work again. He campaigned for a ballot measure raising taxes on the rich and won. And did I mention we now have Covered California. We have a long way to go towards restoring state services to where I think they should be and Brown is more cautious than I prefer. But he understands math, the constitutional requirement of a balanced budget and the fact that we can't print money like the federal government can. Should Brown decide to run, he has my vote.

Is he a liberal wet dream? No. But the first thing he did once elected was tell Republicans to go fuck themselves. And then he raised taxes. He's acting like a Democrat, so I'll vote for him. It's really not that hard. When he had a supermajority, he didn't reach across the aisle; he put Democratic policies in place--WITHOUT APOLOGY. And I am satisfied. I will criticize him when he does stupid shit like support fracking or fail to do something about the water companies. But if on average he keeps moving the state forward, I'll support him.

My mom voted for him in -- '76, I think.

He's too damn old for POTUS. However, I think California should consider naming him Governor-for-life.

If Hillary weren't running, and he were on the ticket, I'll admit I'd consider voting for him.

On an unrelated topic: Boxer - running? retiring? If not running, who? Kamala Harris? Gavin Newsom? Someone else?

Most likely Newsom for governor and Harris for Senate, but I don't have a preference at this time. I do hope to see, at least Gavin Newsom, and possibly Kamala Harris, on the national seen in the next 4 to 8 years.

Hey, he'd be better than Hillary IMHO. I still don't buy the whole coronation of her myself. He'd never get the super majority he enjoys currently in Sacramento, though.

He'll be 78 in 2016. He'd be 82 by the end of that term, and 86 by the end of a possible subsequent term.

The average male life expectancy in the US is 77.

He's 76 and he'd do a great job. Doubt he would consider running. He's not into campaigning and he's very cheap - he'd let the other side talk itself out and just speak plainly and not that often and could win.
