Athens, Georgia man jailed in U.A.E. for taking photograph
An Athens, Georgia man remains locked up in a prison 7,500 miles away in United Arab Emirates, apparently for snapping a photograph in a restricted area.
Dr. Robert Alan Black has been in that prison for more than two weeks, and counting.
Family and friends from Atlanta and Athens and across the country are all chipping in, and Wednesday they were able to hire an attorney to try to get him out of prison.
The Facebook page, Free Dr. Robert Alan Black, tells the story of this author and lecturer and photographer and former architect who was attending a conference in Abu Dhabi. On October 21, while taking a walk, and taking pictures as he is always doing, Dr. Black was arrested -- right after he snapped a photo in an area off-limits to photography.
