Cruz, Lee Already Prepping To Delay AG Nominee Over 'Executive Amnesty'
ByCaitlin MacNeal
Published November 9, 2014, 1:38 PM EST
The same day that President Obama nominated Loretta Lynch to be the next attorney general, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) signaled that it won't be an easy process.
"President Obamas Attorney General nominee deserves fair and full consideration of the United States Senate, which is precisely why she should not be confirmed in the lame duck session of Congress by senators who just lost their seats and are no longer accountable to the voters," the senators said in a Saturday statement.
Multiple Republican senators have already expressed the same view that the Senate should wait to confirm the attorney general until the newly-elected senators take office in January.
But Cruz and Lee also said they would question Lynch over immigration.
"The Attorney General is the President's chief law enforcement officer. As such, the nominee must demonstrate full and complete commitment to the law. Loretta Lynch deserves the opportunity to demonstrate those qualities, beginning with a statement whether or not she believes the Presidents executive amnesty plans are constitutional and legal," they said in the statement.

(503 posts)Someone needs to just come right out and admit it: they opposed this POTUS from day 1 because he was the wrong color. Snowball's chance in the desert they're going to let an "uppity" black WOMAN be the most powerful law enforcer in the WHITE MAN'S U.S.A.
Why, she might actually prosecute the Missouri cop on "civil rights" charges! We can't let her do that! Poor good ol' boy was only keeping that criminal thug in his place!
Hey Republican Stormfronters...

(8,200 posts)I can just hear what some of my racists relatives will be saying when they see her picture. That will be all they care about. Not her accomplishments and character, but her color. Why do Americans continue to delude themselves of the fact that our nation is a racist hell hole.

(503 posts)Great comprehensive analysis of the "new, invisible racism" that's permeated our society since the "end" of the civil rights movement.
The fact that (white) Americans think the civil rights movement ever ended (or that it ended with Obama) says a lot right there. Although a lot of people think that any hope for achieving real-world civil rights for minorities (especially African-Americans) died along with Abraham, Martin, and John (and Bobby).
Oprah being on TV, Denzel being a movie star, and especially Obama being in the WH are by no means panaceas.

(11,856 posts)I think both her and the President know it. But....it will be the opening preview of the Republicans inability to do anything but oppose all things Obama.
Welcome to the beginning of the 2016 Presidential elections.

It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in divorce court one of these days. Away from home so much and running around with a mistress...his adoring audience. Maybe his wife likes it this way.
I think I would. What a dork.

(503 posts)He and Marco "Yo Quiero Más Agua" Rubio are the pathetic excuse for "reaching out to Latinos" in the GOP. Totally don't seem to get it (or want to get it) that were it not for "those uppity minorities" being allowed to vote, their own party would kick them out on their asses in a heartbeat and send them to pick oranges on Rick Scott's Disney World citrus farm.
They might as well have made Speedy Gonzales the honorary chair of the RNC.

(32,006 posts)Filibusters are not allowed for Presidential appointments. So Reid could schedule a vote Monday morning if he wanted. If the nomination gets delayed it will be all on Reid, he controls it.

(4,462 posts)There's a number of pieces of "must pass" legislation that needs to get done before the end of this Congress, and the days are limited due to the Thanksgiving and Christmas recesses. Much of that legislation requires the cooperation of the Republicans both in the Senate and House. Trying to steamroll the Republicans on the nomination, particularly with so many lame duck Democratic senators, will result in demonstrable push-back and the expenditure of very limited political capital. Also, Reid will very soon be in the minority. If unnecessarily angered now, Republicans could make his and the rest of the Democratic Senate minority lives a hell as punishment.
Simply, the president will have to soon compromise with the Republicans concerning all executive appointments. If he tries to ignore them now, they'll quickly return the favor even when it concerns totally uncontroversial nominees.

(8,200 posts)Their concept of working with him, since they are in the majority, is for him to sit down like a good "boy" and shut the fuck up. I can only hope that it doesn't lose heart in face of the abandonment of so many so-called Democrats. I don't know if these spineless creatures could have won their elections if they had, but at least they would have stood for something. They are bemoaning the fact that Democrats didn't show up to vote. Why should they when they don't have the balls to stand the Democratic Party's principles. They are just a pack of wishy-washy nothings who just wanted to get on the government tit and didn't can who or what the sold out to get there.

My take,he will capitulate and we won't have a AG. BTW,remember the Bundy farce, still has to be taken care of and it's up to the AG to get this done. Don't just love all this intrigue,Lee,Cruz,Hatch, and the BLM. Law suites thousand dollar suits.
