Keystone is a bargaining chip for the President

He will sign it into being but he will want something for it. What will he bargain for and will it help the people or the wealthy. I suspect he will bargain for less TAX CUTS. Notice I said LESS and not ZERO Tax Cuts. Republicans are going to want TAX CUTS. It is what they live for.. If Obama signs into law more TAX CUTS we can watch our economy crumble right before our eyes.. Just as we did after Bush*'s Tax Cuts until the entire economy melted down. I don't believe Obama has any real strong beliefs. I believe everything is Politics with him and he NEVER shys away from cutting a deal.

If he said "The only way I sign for Keystone XL is with a real cap-and-trade system that puts the country on course to actually back up all my empty rhetoric in China and Australia last week", the Koch brothers would be all over that. Not only would they get their pipeline, but they could find ways to make money on the cap and trade system.

Chained CPI on Social Security. And he'll throw in an invasion of Iraq if that's what it takes to get the deal done.

It is 3-dimentional tiddly winks.

If Obama were a real progressive or even a garden variety Democrat with any stones, he would trade XL for a cap and trade agreement. That would actually be a good solution for everybody. It would give the oil barons the pipeline they crave, but it would put us on a path for real carbon reductions, which is the whole point of the opposition in the first place.

7. It's not a bargaining chip for the climate.

The pressure has got to be kept on Pres. Obama to stop the environmental destruction caused by Alberta tar sands mining.

Keystone XL is not the place to 'make a deal' with Koch Industries and their Tea Party-Repuglican toadies.

Pres. Obama is giving indications that climate change is going to be a legacy issue for him, especially for his final two years as president.

Nevertheless, Obama is a politician and it is up to us to remind him everyday that we can assist in the slowdown of tar sands mining by stopping this pipeline.

There is NO WAY that he would do something good for the right reasons and actually stick to it. To make matters even worse he will trade away his signature on a Keystone pipeline bill for republican agreement to legislation that they support anyway.
