FINALLY: G.O.P. unveils immigration plan as told by Andy Borowitz

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell unveiled his party’s long-awaited plan on immigration on Wednesday, telling reporters, “We must make America somewhere no one wants to live.”

Appearing with House Speaker John Boehner, McConnell said that, in contrast to President Obama’s “Band-Aid fixes,” the Republican plan would address “the root cause of immigration, which is that the United States is, for the most part, habitable.”

“For years, immigrants have looked to America as a place where their standard of living was bound to improve,” McConnell said. “We’re going to change that.”
Boehner said that the Republicans’ plan would reduce or eliminate “immigration magnets,” such as the social safety net, public education, clean air, and drinkable water.

The Speaker added that the plan would also include the repeal of Obamacare, calling healthcare “catnip for immigrants.”

Attempting, perhaps, to tamp down excitement about the plan, McConnell warned that turning America into a dystopian hellhole that repels immigrants “won’t happen overnight.”

“Our crumbling infrastructure and soaring gun violence are a good start, but much work still needs to be done,” he said. “When Americans start leaving the country, we’ll know that we’re on the right track.”

In closing, the two congressional leaders expressed pride in the immigration plan, noting that Republicans had been working to make it possible for the past thirty years.

Serious question; is there an objective measure by which one can determine the exact point at which America reaches "third world status"?

Does that mean we should all immigrate to Cuba? With Obamacare, Cuba still has a better healthcare system than we do; without it, Cuba has a healthcare system that is worlds better.

The underlying point of Borowitz' satire is that the oligarchs and their stooges in Congress and state legislatures are making America less habitable. And they've been working at it for thirty years.

I've often said that the United States is becoming a new banana republic with nothing to offer except to the oligarchs who control everything. Are our police departments beginning to resemble the goose stepping military units of South American despots? They are the private armies of the Koch brothers and their ilk. I think it will not get better until we band together and fight.

I am quite sure after the Republicans get rid of the immigrants except for the ones needed for cheap labor or skilled people who will work for a low wage they have an even better plan. Get rid of poor people and old people who are no longer useful. Of course if you are wealthy and old you might even get some of the poor to use as cheap servants.

They do nothing by halves, that gang of oligarches. The latest the want gone are the those from south of the border and international immigrants.

Before that it was unwilling black immigrants, with their 'Ship 'em back to Africa' rallying cry.

They don't regard native americans as sufficiently 'American' to live here. And they've called all of those groups communists.

Yes, by all means, stamp out anything that appeals to the 'We're all in this together' mindset. They are consistent in their desire to have a government in the hands of an exclusive group of people that they just so happed to be in.

Bush: 'Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over'
News • Politics • government • george w. bush • clinton administration • ISSUE 43•01 ISSUE 37•01 • Jan 17, 2001

WASHINGTON, DC–Mere days from assuming the presidency and closing the door on eight years of Bill Clinton, president-elect George W. Bush assured the nation in a televised address Tuesday that "our long national nightmare of peace and prosperity is finally over."

"My fellow Americans," Bush said, "at long last, we have reached the end of the dark period in American history that will come to be known as the Clinton Era, eight long years characterized by unprecedented economic expansion, a sharp decrease in crime, and sustained peace overseas. The time has come to put all of that behind us."

Bush swore to do "everything in [his] power" to undo the damage wrought by Clinton's two terms in office, including selling off the national parks to developers, going into massive debt to develop expensive and impractical weapons technologies, and passing sweeping budget cuts that drive the mentally ill out of hospitals and onto the street.

During the 40-minute speech, Bush also promised to bring an end to the severe war drought that plagued the nation under Clinton, assuring citizens that the U.S. will engage in at least one Gulf War-level armed conflict in the next four years.

It's been clear since 1980 that the Republican agenda is to make sure that the only gains to be made are by the 1% and the corporations owned by the 1%. Everything they do is aimed at that goal. Too bad the main stream media will NOT cover this, and only sources pretending to be comedic are willing to tell the truth.

Thanks to the Internet it seems like folks may be catching on. That is why Net Neutrality is so important. We can't let them take over the one communications media that we actually have access to.

Ministers consider launching negative ad campaign in two countries to persuade potential immigrants to stay away from UK

Please don't come to Britain – it rains and the jobs are scarce and low-paid. Ministers are considering launching a negative advertising campaign in Bulgaria and Romania to persuade potential immigrants to stay away from the UK.

The plan, which would focus on the downsides of British life, is one of a range of potential measures to stem immigration to Britain next year when curbs imposed on both country's citizens living and working in the UK will expire.

A report over the weekend quoted one minister saying that such a negative advert would "correct the impression that the streets here are paved with gold".

There was no word on how any advert might look or whether it would use the strategy of making Britain look as horrible as possible or try to encourage would-be migrants to wake up to the joys of their own countries whether Romania's Carpathian mountains or Bulgaria's Black Sea resorts. With governments around the world spending millions on hiring London-based consultants to undertake "reputation laundering" there would be a peculiar irony if Britain chose to trash its own image perhaps by highlighting winter flooding of homes or the carnage of a Saturday night A&E ward.
