Thirteen-year-old Joshua Gromowsky headed to the school gymnasium Tuesday for what he thought would be a routine spirit assembly.

When his family showed up, the eighth-grader at Mary Our Queen Catholic School in Omaha got suspicious.

“I was just like. ‘Why are they here for our pep rally?’ I had no idea what was going on.”

Then came the big announcement from University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman.

He seems to be doing well. Average class size at his school is 20 students to one teacher. If one is not a parishioner tuition is $4,400/year. Not too bad. Seems this school has some wealth to go around for a private institution. Now one of their students has more. I myself went to a fairly well to do Catholic school. My tuition in high school was a little more than this place. Always amazed me how many hand-outs we got.

I think we sometimes get it backward. No matter what it is not on this young man. None of what he is going through is by his design and he deserves praise. I'm not simply going to jump for joy if that praise comes in the form of monetary payment. I would really like to know more about his family situation.

For the young man personally, he deserves praise for his efforts.
