Utah lawmakers endorse proposal to allow firing squads in state executions

Associated Press in Salt Lake City
theguardian.com, Wednesday 19 November 2014 22.38 GMT

Ten years after banning the use of firing squads in state executions, Utah lawmakers on Wednesday endorsed a proposal to allow the practice again to avoid problems with lethal-injection drugs.

The proposal from Republican Representative Paul Ray of Clearfield would call for a firing squad if the state cannot obtain the lethal injection drugs 30 days before the scheduled execution.

Utah dropped firing squads out of concern about the media attention, but Ray said it’s the most humane way to execute someone because the inmate dies instantly.

“We have to have an option,” Ray told reporters Wednesday. “If we go hanging, if we go to the guillotine, or we go to the firing squad, electric chair, you’re still going to have the same circus atmosphere behind it. So is it really going to matter?”

like that botched lethal injection in Oklahoma.

Personally, I'd choose firing squad over hanging, lethal injection or the electric chair.

Then shoot me up with what ever would stop my heart

Make it a lethal dose of heroin I wouldn't care but being shot in the chest is not guaranteed
that you die instantaneous . It's not even close

I just lose faith in our system since death row inmates have been released
and proven innocent of the crime.

On the other hand we have cases where there is no shadow of a doubt the person
is guilty.

Take for instance the parents recently who abused and tortured their 5 year old little child for 3 days.
Hung him upside down from his feet in their trailer home and beat him to death.
They went out after ate some pizza .

People like that need a bullet in the head.
