And, I have to say, this is one of the times that I'm grateful for you guys. Just because this is a community, not just a bunch of people posting online.
It's a place where we all take the time to recognize each other's humanity. For me, I haven't seen a lot of other places like that. At least not to the extent to which is is here. I only have a few friends on Twitter and Tumblr, in spite of vast number of people I follow and those that follow me. Even on Facebook, aside from my actual extended family members and school associates there, it's not the same as it is here.
So for all of you, I leave you these words by Elie Wiesel in gratitude:
Thanks very much.

(18,998 posts)Because I don't go there, but I have been here as long as you and I agree this is a community.
And over the years I have come to know many members of this community including you, and they do seem like a family...a digital one but family none the less.
And over the years I have been impressed with the intelligence of our comunity...and love reading the many posters here who really care and think about things deeply.

(10,479 posts)When I read that I suddenly realized I have been on DU since 2002. I have heard that the older one becomes time becomes harder to catch. I believe it. I rarely post anymore but reading DU is always like having the family over for dinner and conversation. Thanks for giving us an Elie Wiesel goodie!

(17,505 posts)Yeah right. We "all"....
Must be why I was just "hidden" and called a homophobe..... even though I've been gay my whole life. I was called a queer by classmates in the 4th grade fer Christ sake! (I thought it meant "stupid" but my older sister pulled me aside and explained the meaning.)
There are plenty of people on here who apparently cannot read and who are (as per above) the lousiest arm chair psychologists on the planet.
I think the "we all" is a bit too encompassing.
Fortunately it's just a message board.

DU may not be a perfect community, but when stuff like the incredible injustice in Ferguson happens, we need each other .
Blessings to all.

There is heart here...truth here, and humor here....not only does this place
keep me informed, but I look forward to the comments, because of the
folks that are here, and all they have to offer, and you sir are definitely
at the top of that list....hats off, big time....

(81,058 posts)I'm a little surprised during all this Ferguson coverage that the Dump-On-Obama marathon slowed up a little. How 'bout that.
Grim times. Times when I, too, need DU and all the people toward whom I feel great fondness and affection. DU has kept me sane and not feeling alone and isolated - since the early months of bush/cheney. I needed it badly then. I still need it now. Glad you're here. Your wisdom is always great to have, and to read.

(35,773 posts)I wish I felt the same way. My impression is that DU has become very insular over time. Discussion is scuttled and evidence does not matter like it did when it first began. The vehement who do not care about evidence scare away those who do care about evidence, and far too many DUers stand on the sidelines allowing the anti-evidence crowd to take over, because they don't want to deal with conflict, and with ugly attacks.
It's nice to pretend that things are different than they are, but they're not.
I wish things were different. This place had a lot of promise, but the promise has dissolved.
