Why are people so determined to claim racism wasn't involved?

Copying/pasting my signature here in this post because THIS is why:

Awareness of unfairness undercuts unfairness. People who perceive that the social system discriminates against racial minorities are more likely to support policies to reduce that discrimination. Racists know this. That's why denial of racism is a time-honored tactic. -Jim Loewen, Sundown Towns: A Hidden Dimension of American Racism

at very deep, very large levels.

Awareness of their hatred would cause them to see that their entire identity is a lie. This would cease their existence as they know it. This would be intolerable to the racists. Hence they must maintain their lie at all cost.

They're a terrorist organization and scary outfits help.

I think other racists try to claim they aren't because they know at least some people will dismiss them if they come right out and admit them.

First shooting ever for this particular cop?
Black witnesses backing cops testimony of story?
Forensics backing witness and cops story?
Black Attorney General Holder came away empty handed?
Deceased had committed robbery just before incident?

Take your pick.

Fact is there are no facts - NONE - in this case, that point to this being a racist cop who went out to kill someone black that day.

a real, live denier.

1) wilson, along with the entire police department of Jennings, MO was fired for...wait for it..."tensions' between the department and the black community. the city council actually disbanded the department and fired everyone. some officers were late re-hired, wilson was not among them.

2) the prosecution claimed there was only one "credible" witness. i am not sure which one they those, but i assume it is the one that backed wilson.

3) per AG Holder, the federal investigation is ongoing.

4) no robbery complaint filed by the owner of the store.

FACT: you are a dupe. the fucking KKK supported this asshole, so i assume you think that's because he's sucha great friend to the black community. Now we find out the fucking PROSECUTOR was raising funds for wilson.
total FAIL.

The police overall don't generally pick color. They pick situations where they can get away with it.

You go down to some of the most hick areas of WV and VA and they harass, shoot at and sometimes kill whites under very suspicious circumstances - and they always get away with it because the little towns' hierarchy are usually all related by blood or marriage.

So, how do they vote Repuke? Because they're told over and over it's the police union that allows it.

That, at least, is especially true of us liberals.....why, 60 years ago, most Americans didn't want to believe that some of our resident racists really could be as outright nasty & downright mean-spirited as so many of the ultra-nationalist groups that ran around Europe during the Twenties and Thirties.....

Conservatives on the other hand, often do this because they have some sort of agenda in mind.....which is usually an explicitly anti-progressive one.

I do agree with Mr. Loewen, though: Indeed, a good many Americans, once they realized that Jim Crow really was shitting on African-Americans, decided that they couldn't abide by that, and some of those folks actively and openly supported the Civil Rights Movement. And, to be honest, this quote is probably even more true in this era.
