In a year when gay rights made great strides, racial problems dominate the end of the year news.
Sorry about that,2014.

building in the center of the picture, the Old Courthouse, makes it even more so.

From Wikipedia:

In 1846 the slave Dred Scott sued for his and his wife's freedom as they had been held as slaves in free states. All of the trials, including a Missouri Supreme Court hearing, were held in Old Courthouse. The case was ultimately decided by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1857 Dred Scott v. Sandford, which ruled against the Scotts, saying they did not have grounds as citizens to sue.

Case in point the Cardinals of the 60's had an excellent reputation in a decade that defined the Civil Rights movement. 2014 Cardinals fans chant racial slurs. I have no intention visiting St. Louis for any purpose and it is not from fear of protest. The virulence of white bigotry in St. Louis and the surrounding communities is astounding. It is getting worse I am in a state of utter disgust.

They played the opinions of numerous people on this cover and asked him for his reactions. He said he thought they all were valid, though he agreed with the person who said she thought that the community would come together again. Sounds like a cool and thoughtful guy:

'New Yorker' Cover Shows A Divided St. Louis
