But the truth is, though, police brutality is a problem that can affect anyone; just look at what happened to a lot of the Occupy folks back in 2011/12, and '13.
I apologize if my point was stated poorly, however, and some got the impression that we should stop focusing on AA's, period.....that was not the intention.

However black men are being gunned down a an alarming rate. And the murdering cops are not being held accountable. Just stop and wake up and open your eyes. White men walk away from their crimes, black men are shot dead with deadly force. Your posts are rather ugly and outright wrong.

Yeah, I know we may sometimes be tempted to go into "us vs. them" mode.....hell, I've probably been guilty of that myself, I must admit.....but I'm afraid we're not doing ourselves by stating, "oh, person A must not get point B, therefore they must certainly be C(racist/misogynist/etc.)." isn't doing us any favors. The truth is, a lot of people out there don't get it, not because they hate and/or fear black people, or Latinos, or whatever, it's because they live in a bubble of sorts. They just don't know what to think, period. And that's why I myself place so much emphasis on education on the issues.

You are turning a "we stand here for you. We support you" into "so what if the statistics show that a black person being abused or killed by cops or in custody are astronomically greater than what happens to white people. White people deserve as much attention. Fuck Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, VanDerrit Myers, Akai Gurley, etc etc etc. "

A black man is killed by cops every 28 hours in this country.

http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/1-black-man-killed-every-28-hours-police-or-vigilantes-america-perpetually-war-its

Mother Jones has a great article with the best statistics available. We find out:

black people were about four times as likely to die in custody or while being arrested than whites

Between 1968 and 2011, black people were between two to eight times more likely to die at the hands of law enforcement than whites. Annually, over those 40 years, a black person was on average 4.2 times as likely to get shot and killed by a cop than a white person.

Perhaps I can be a little too pragmatically minded for my own good, I dunno. As I said earlier:

Yes, AAs are indeed gunned down at an alarming rate. The reason I posted that, however, was that some folks out there may not get the bigger picture.....

So, yes, I'm sorry you got a bad impression, but I wasn't trying to make the point that you thought I was. Hope this clears things up a little.

But we all know police brutality exists for everyone. To bring it up, to diminish the mantra, "black lives matter" at this time especially, is just wrong.

There's a time and a place for everything. This is the time to show support, solidarity with our black brothers and sisters.

When you have to worry about your young son being gunned down by cops, every time he walks out the door, then say it.

You don't care for the slogan "Black Lives Matter." so you want to change it, to something that you approve of, because your opinion is the one that should count. Everyone else should step down and bow before your superior mind and your greater knowledge, to defer to you and what you think on the subject.

Essentially you're making the whole affair about you.

again, you say you get the point. Then just get the point and stand with it, man. Don't go trying to school people with your - in your estimation - "superior notions."

Your only problem with rights for blacks is that there's not enough attention given to whites.

Your only problem with rights for women is that there's not enough attention given to men.

Your only problem with rights for Trobriand islanders is that there's not enough attention given to Americans.

Anything that you're not the center of is a threat to your tiny, tiny ego.

Just heard Al Sharpton exciting a group by demanding that the Attorney General do something about the situation.

Won't do any good if they all ask and go to Washington, every black in the US.

Why? Because the majority of politicians only pay attention to blacks a month before any election. Then, nara.

Also, if Holden or Obama do anything to help them, the blacks will be ridiculed as being taken care of by their own kind. Not a good situation. Especially when there are plenty of whites who don't approve of a lot of police and courtroom tactics...who should do something about it.

Whites must involve themselves and demand equal and fair treatment from the law for Blacks and Hispanics, Muslims, whoever.... Whites contribute the most to their campaigns, so the politicians cater to them. If whites want fair treatment for blacks, they should sign petitions, send emails, write letters, and be sure to say, "I am WHITE." It'll make the elected ones sit up and pay attention....not asking for favored treatment, just EQUAL treatment.

Growing up I was constantly accused of "making excuses" and "being lazy", any explanation I gave for my problems was dismissed as just more excuses for being lazy. I suspect this is very similar to what people of color go through when their own experiences are degraded and dismissed.

I am feeling powerless. I got an old achy body and no money.
But, I have a computer. My new year will begin with writing emails and PAPER letters. I am working on a few (it's hard because they end up being emotional). It may not be much, but it is what I can do.

Somehow i was under the impression that raising smart and caring children would change the world. I think all that did was confuse my kids now that they are seeing the world as adults.
