Iowans have their say on proposed Dakota Access oil pipeline across state

STORM LAKE, Iowa — The company that wants to build an oil pipeline across Iowa promised landowners Wednesday that the line would be safe and that they would be fairly compensated for their land and any damage caused by construction.

“Safety and reliability are top priorities,”said Adam Broad, a senior project manger for the Dakota Access Pipeline project. “We will operate the pipeline with the utmost level of integrity and safety at all times.”

Those comments were met with a mix of skepticism and support during an informational meeting Wednesday at Buena Vista University that drew about 300 people.

“I have safety issue concerns,” said Willis Hamilton, 65, a local attorney who owns an acreage that the pipeline would pass near.
