Claims he is going to put up this billboard in Los Angeles:
Donohue said in a statement that the billboard will go up in Los Angeles because he wants to send a message to Hollywood: No, the Hollywood moguls who disrespect Christians are not the same as radical Muslims who behead us, but both are full of hate. Moreover, both need to be challenged. Christians are fed up with the barbarians abroad and the bigots at home. Its time all these bullies learned to practice the virtue of tolerance and the meaning of diversity. Most recently, Donohue decried secular groups as cultural fascists and criticized the inclusion of non-Christian religious holidays in New York public schools since everyone knows that we are a Christian nation.

(11,417 posts)who spend so much time judging other people by the standards they supposedly set for themselves then ask for tolerance toward themselves.
If you want love you have to give love.
Dr. Jones says that the greatest hindrance to the Christian gospel in India is a dislike for western domination, western snobbery, the western theological system, western militarism and western race prejudice. Gandhi, the great prophet of India, said, "I love your Christ, but I dislike your Christianity." The embarrassing fact is that India judges us by our own professed standard. In reply to a question of Dr. Jones as to how it would be possible to bring India to Christ, Gandhi replied: First, I would suggest that all of you Christians live more like Jesus Christ. Second, I would suggest that you practice your Christianity without adulterating it. The anomalous situation is that most of us would be equally shocked to see Christianity doubted or put into practice. Third, I would suggest that you put more emphasis on love, for love is the soul and center of Christianity. Fourth, I would suggest that you study the non-Christian religions more sympathetically in order to find the good that is in them, so that you might have a more sympathetic approach to the people.

(23,926 posts)I also believe that proselytizing fundies are a pain in the ass. My faith is my own. I neither feel any need to force it upon others, nor do I give a flying fuck who shares it.
I have looked, and cannot find the portion of the Scriptures wherein Jesus Christ admonishes me to impose my faith on anyone else.

(11,417 posts)was my duty to teach others that the Catholic church was the one true church and if they refused to join after I told them they would go to hell. I didn't accept that of course.

(17,469 posts)should keep their goddamned mouths shut.
Also, I am sick of hearing about how this new Pope is "different", more progressive. As long as he allows maggots like Donohue to speak for the Church (and he DOES speak for the Church since the Pope does NOT repudiate him and his remarks) he is no better than the rest of the child-raping bastards.

(45,319 posts)His organization is in fact the largest Catholic advocacy group in the country, providing him with a six figure salary and a running budget in the millions. They have a quarter of a million paid members and a board of directors full of famous rich people, lavish offices and strong ties to the Church itself. Bill is not the founder nor the first head of that organization, it existed before him and will exist afterward.
The reason he thrives is that the people who should strongly object to him do not object and instead claim he is just one guy with a fax machine, unconnected to any other person or funding source.....

(2,419 posts)that his approach and tactics are remarkably similar to those of Wayne La Pierre at the NRA. They must use the same PR firms. The faux outrage and lashing out at the boogey men that are all around them threatening their way of life. Tell me how the dominant religion that literally defines our culture through its omnipresent influence in every aspect of our life is somehow mortally threatened by any challenge to its hegemony. "Have A Peaceful And Joyous Christmas" or else!
