Re the need for music in this painful time, I saw Stevie Wonder last night.

First, he was more than I ever could have imagined. The genius and skill and playfulness and sheer virtuosity of that man is phenomenal. He played for four hours and commanded every bit of it. If you get the chance and don't go you will have missed greatness.

He also said a little about what we've been seeing in Ferguson and New York. And with a statement of great love, for everyone, he said we have to find a way to work together to make it stop, before it destroys us all.

He played Living For the City, and we wept. And he played this, and we sobbed.

We need words, music, art, to keep us going and to help us get there.

Been getting up a playlist for music-starved nephews and SWs music was must-have. Hard to choose, but Living For The City sure made the cut. Just seems like there hasn't been much improvement over the years.

But honestly, he was looking for, and providing, hope. I'm holding onto that as hard as I can.

Music Of My Mind was probably the first commercially successful R&B concept album.

I saw Chick Corea play live back in October.

He played "Pastime Paradise" from Songs in the Key of Life.

I recognized it as "Amish Paradise" by Weird Al, since Al was parodying Coolio's "Gangsta Paradise" which was sampled from "Pastime Paradise. I did not know until I looked it up later that Coolio's song was not original.

Before launching into his song,”Living for the City” at the Key Arena, Wonder told the crowd, “I’ve always seen all of us, no matter what our ethnicities are, no matter what our colors are, as one family” leading to his question, “Can you believe that within one month, two grand juries—secret grand juries—declined to indict two policemen for the killing of two black men? I just don’t understand that.”

Tall, light hair? That's Stevie's daughter, the one for whom he wrote "Isn't She Lovely?"
