I don't know if your theory is true or not, but at least it makes sense. Unlike what the theaters are saying which is that they are concerned about the safety of moviegoers.

North Korea doesn't have that kind of physical reach into the US.
Their cyber reach is quite astounding, at this point in time.

Insurance policies are taken out for specific risks. All not named are excluded.
If they know they are not insured against these cyber attacks, theater companies made this decision themselves.
