Wow, this will be a Christmas to remember for a lonnnng time

On Christmas Eve five years ago, I prevented a suicide attempt by catching a jumper at our facility. She messed up my Christmas day, but as far as I know, she is still alive. That sucked.

Today beat that by a mile.

I was injured in an assault at work and was seen in the ER three weeks ago. The ED physician ordered a CT to rule out brain injury from the kick to the head. He had good news and bad. Good, no broken orbital or jaw bones from the kick, but he saw "something"
on the CT that prompted him to schedule a visit with an ENT when I am discharged from the ER.

I see the ENT and he explained after reviewing the CTs he wants to order two more scans, one with contrast. He believed there may be a cancerous growth that showed up on the scan.

I work for three weeks stressing about cancer and what I will tell my wife and kids, dad and siblings. What a scary goddamn word. CANCER. I actually had to take today off from work because I stressed on what the doctor would tell me at 3pm.

Today I see the ENT and am told: tests on the tissue show no cancer! But I'll probably need surgery for another issue stemming from an ear operation decades ago...

I learned today that I will have a happy Christmas.
I will celebrate with my 1- month old grandson, my wife and kids.
Enjoy every day people! Every single day to it's fullest because you never know when someone will tell you they "see something" on an x-ray...

Merry Christmas

There sure is a lot to be thankful for. Being ALIVE!

My daughter had an emergency C=section in July for twin boys that were "due" early October. 27 week babies.
They spent 104 days in intensive care. They went home in early November and will experience their first Christmas in good health. I'm the grandfather of twin boys! Life can throw curves. But as long as you get a piece of the ball...

but am sorry you had to endure three weeks of hell wondering if you had cancer. I don't know why doctors throw out words like that when they don't know if that is what you have. It's torturous.

Many years ago, my brother was told that the doctor was going to run some tests because his symptoms could be MS. It wasn't, thankfully, but the family was scared to death while waiting for the tests to be completed.

Years back, the fiance of one of my college students was told he might have AIDS, so the doctor was going to run some tests. My student was terrified that they both would wind up with AIDS and her kids would grow up without parents. It wasn't AIDS, but something fairly minor and curable.

Doctors need to be a bit more sensitive and compassionate, and not drop worst case scenarios unless absolutely necessary.

Glad things worked out well for you. Have a great Christmas!

My mother-in-law allows minor arguments with her siblings to turn into slights, then distance. I wonder which one will die first to cause her to remember that we aren't guaranteed a tomorrow to make things up.

I'm so happy for you and your good news.
