Kathleen Parker: Sharpton does more harm than good

It seems like she is part of the "a bigoted white populace" she mentions.

Recent events from Ferguson, Missouri, to Staten Island, New York, might prompt an observer to infer that American cops are racist and that a bigoted white populace tolerates unnecessary lethal force against minorities.

One might also conclude that America has a hearty appetite for the carnival barker, the jester, the rabble-rouser, the race baiter and, lest we leave anyone out, the performance-activist who pretends to be a newsman while fomenting unrest that only he can quell.

Kathleen Parker, Washington Post

I haven’t yet said Al Sharpton, but if his name came to mind, there must be a reason.
In nearly every high-profile case in recent years that involved a black alleged victim and a white alleged perpetrator, Sharpton has injected himself as arbiter. Where once he was a mere street activist, he is today a disruptive celebrity. He has stepped off the soapbox and into the MSNBC television studio, where he is free to pontificate and to chastise those who don’t fit his template of truth and justice.

FULL story at link.

Sharpton has made some bad calls, but I'm sure all of yours have been good. Sitting down and being quiet won't rectify anything. It gives those who hate for no reason more oxygen to flame out. In a country with more prisoners than any other in the world, most of whom are people of color, we need a few more Sharptons. I'm sure all of those people coming together, marching and speechifying is an inconvenience for you, Kathleen; but just calm down, drink a cup of tea and be patient. You'll get your world back soon. The one where people of color are safely imprisoned and brutalized while bask safely in the sunshine.

...you will see another example of a privileged white person preach to African Americans that their long-simmering anger about racism, especially at the hands of police, is wrong, something merely stirred up by carnival barkers and jesters like Al Sharpton. Isn't it amazing how easy it is to marginalize one of the most influential African American leaders in the country? Carnival barker? Jester? This is pure character assassination.

Right-wingers like Parker are always wondering why African Americans vote for Democrats in such staggering numbers. Oh, it must be the "free things" the Democrats protect from the Republican budget cutters. No, it's because Republicans are living in a fictional world where slaves were fortunate to be brought to this great country, free of charge(!), and allowed to build our buildings and pick our cotton which meant they got to participate in our capitalist system (yay!), and then we gave them FREEDOM! And now they're upset because the criminals and young thugs in their midst sometimes end up dead without a trial. <sniff> How ungrateful of them.

Miles of oceans separate the distance between those 2. I don't what you mean by chastise as in what is being chastised?

Caylee Anthony, after her body was found. Nancy Grace, was reporting the details Some maintenance worker type was the one who reported "a bag of trash or something similar". He said, that he spotted earlier like weeks or a month ago saying basically nothing was done and the officer was an asshole to him at that point she blows up cops are around dopers & violent people (can't remember the words) and going off for describing the officer's behavior as if he was ungrateful POS. Wow.

I never seen Sharpton try to over talk someone, cut them off -- when a guest starts giving information or opinions that are uncomfortable she'll quickly insult them, switch to someone else or the guest on studio. She is closer to Bill O'Reilly than Sharpton but tone, style, debate, integrity is why she is one of my least favorite TV hosts.

which fits better her complaint. Nancy Grace or Al. Which one did she write an op ed about accusing of doing things frankly Nancy Grace has done for years. Could it be because Al is black... I mean what else could it be?

I already had an expectation on what she was probably going to say and stopped reading at "Sharpton has injected himself as arbiter." Pretty much same shit Giuliani has been saying within the past month.

I was going to say if I didn't understand your comment, your explanation lost me but tried to decipher it. Op ed was a clue, went back and read the rest and it all come together.

He used to be on Hannity & Colmes all the time, even then he didn't rile them up as he is now.

I realize some hold a grudge for believing a girl who last reported on moved somewhere else, changed her name, but sticking to her story.

I wonder what Fox News coverage of Ashley Todd was like?

Nothing that's what I'm sick of white and black commentators who sit in there conferable studio's talking shit about Sharpton. He's the only onewho has stepped up to the plate on these issues while everybody else sit on the side lines.Plus Sharpton doesn't get involved in cases unless the victims relatives call and ask him to get involved. And I might add Sharpton has been stabbed trying to fight causes.
