The University of Virginia, after receiving guidance from the local police, has reinstated the fraternity at the center of a magazine article that detailed gang rape allegations that later unraveled.
We welcome Phi Kappa Psi, and we look forward to working with all fraternities and sororities in enhancing and promoting a safe environment for all, Teresa A. Sullivan, the president of the university, said in a statement.
In November, an article in Rolling Stone magazine detailed a students account of a 2012 gang rape at the fraternity, which prompted Ms. Sullivan to suspend all fraternities through the end of the year and to contact the Charlottesville Police Department to request a criminal investigation.
The story of the student, identified only as Jackie, started to crumble as various people and news organizations began to investigate the veracity of the account, and her friends contested details. Rolling Stone then published a note to readers from Will Dana, the managing editor, stating, In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in Jackies account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced.

You just know that is going to happen.

(44,973 posts)2. I think it's very obvious that fraternity was falsely accused by Rolling Stones article.
Since the guy accused by Jackie wasn't a member of it.
And the guy she accused to Rolling Stones article wasn't even the same when she named to her friends at the time of when this rape supposedly happened. And the first guy she accused at the time wasn't enrolled in the University.
