(16,286 posts)When W and Cheney and Wolfowitz and Perle and company murdered hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's and American soldiers, there was a profit motive behind it.
Political and financial.
What motive is there for these killings if not a radical religion motive?
BTW I hear some rightwing states are outlawing abortion in America, and the rightwingers in the US House are trying to do this also, the result will be murdering Women, and I will consider those politicians just as guilty as those who did the shooting in France.

(68,644 posts)Which is so Hollywood.
These violent acts bring more grief to true Muslims, it makes no sense, it seems more likely the work of a more well organized government cell, to me.
And when I think about who has the most to gain, and realize it ain't Muslims but it might be, oh, the war profiteers and energy and resource interests, I tend to think that the thing really was scripted.

(58,724 posts)It's not just Hollywood movies where that happens.
Have you seen the Nick Berg beheading video for example?
Again, I would ask what they could have said or done that would have convinced you that they were in fact Islamic radicals (or at least made you strongly believe that they were).

(27,315 posts)There has been a vast amalgam, left and right, in Europe and in this country, about who these people were. For the most part, they have grown up in the West and are largely European. I happen to know the place her boyfriend grew up. It is a very poor housing project, and it has been going downhills for at least 20 years. During the previous socialist government, it was considered a zone to help in priority (after another housing projects rebellion, I think, but I would guess that, with the economic crisis, the funds have been lost.
Anyway, for many of these people, asserting their origin is a way to protest, not necessarily a religious conviction. So this is not surprising.
This is not to say that nobody believes in a strict Islam, this would be going the other way, but I am not surprised there would be pictures like that.

(89,252 posts)or have a lot of familiarity with them from living there, studying etc.
these aren't some people from places like afghanistan where they have been cut off from the world and only taught religious things.
in fact many of these people are usually ignorant when it comes to discusses of the religion . this is what hostages taken by isis have said.

It's part of a narrative that she's some sort of femme fatale who seduced a two-bit criminal into a major terrorist.

but how actual terrorists live is much different. look at the rappers, awlaki and prostitutes and many other cases of what would not be seen as "moral"

(20,582 posts)Photographs of the 'wife' of the Kosher supermarket hostage killer reveal how she was radicalised by the man she would go on to marry.
She told police who interviewed her as part of their inquiries into Coulibalys murky dealings with Islamic extremists that she had walked away from a low-paid job as a cashier in the Juvisy suburb of Paris in 2009 and taken the veil. She devoted herself to Coulibaly.
Interrogated by police in 2010, Boumeddiene said she was inspired by her husband and the radicals she lived with to read a lot of books on religion and because of this, I came to ask questions on religion.
When I saw the massacre of the innocents in Palestine, in Iraq, in Chetchna, in Afghanistan or anywhere the Americans sent their bombers, all that well, who are the terrorists?'

No idea if the Daily Mail is an accepted site here or not, but make of this what you will ....... I took it to mean she had not practiced Islam prior to being introduced to it by her boyfriend. (bolded by me).
