KittyWampus
(55,894 posts)And even for that they have to have fighter jets fly by for spectacle.
You really think the Super Bowl half time is about anything less than a musical circus?

(9,527 posts)But I disdain Katy Perry such to the point that one of my friends responded by saying "yes" as she pumped her fist when I lamented that she got a Katy Perry song stuck in my head.
But the Super Bowl is too much sizzle, not enough steak most years. I get that they are going for the most common denominator and I don't fit into that musically, but they go for artists I find substanceless and give performances that are at best g rated because they are terrified of having another Janet Jackson incident.

(28,347 posts)this half time is just awful. Flashing, colorful lights entertaining the audience because the entertainers sure aren't.

(23,340 posts)Katy is very comical. I like her visual sense, which is uniquely hers. She doesn't take herself seriously at all.
and my daughter loves her. She is 7.

(21,925 posts)We are individuals here with individual taste. We're not part of a group mind or hive yet, that has to like what everyone else likes. Personally, to me this artist has no talent to warrant the adulation she receives and her material is just awful. Listening to her is like nails on a chalkboard. When it comes to my appreciation of talent, I hope I never get in the loop and am able to make up my own mind. If she ran for office as a liberal I'd vote for her as I'd probably like her opinions. As a musical performer, however, I think she completely sucks and wouldn't spend one dime buying her music or attending a concert..
Skittles
(153,169 posts)I absolutely agree - I listened to The Supremes on my car radio on my way to work and I was wishing for true talent to make a comeback

(8,419 posts)I grew up not far from the stadium. My first thought was how did they get it so dark? It wouldn't be that dark outside the stadium in Phx at 6. Then they added city lights for the shots outside the stadium. That area of Phoenix isn't densely populated. They made it look like LA, not West Phoenix.

Since I am a 70s-80s punk rocker, the current crop of pop music stars is beyond my ability to grapple with, on a musical level.
That, plus the overblown sets and puppet stuff really puts this in the crapper, for me.
Glad ya "kinda liked" it, though. I guess it was not all in vain...

I found the performance fun as it really seemed to cover a lot of things from the cute part to really artistic puppetry and all music in between. Perry is a pop star that I want to not like, but I can't help liking her.

Then again, she's pretty much got the entire Denver Bronco's team stats buried in her head. No matter how much I try to indoctrinate her to the Patriots, she'll never let Peyton Manning go.

The half time show my husband said well no chance of clothes malfunction this year, her main outfit came up to her neck.

(39,961 posts)It wasn't embarrassing, and though I can never tell from one minute to the next whether I despise Katy Perry or appreciate that she does have a good voice, I have to say she did a much better job than the wardrobe malfunction crew and the "here is my ass, look at it" shows of the past.
