that the Patriots, who according to some have played with underinflated balls since 2006, learned in two short weeks how to pass, run, and catch a properly-inflated ball with sufficient skill to win a football game.

(15,429 posts)They missed so many third down opportunities I thought it was a completely different team than has played all season.
They were noticeably worse than they have been all season. It should have been a complete blowout given their record this year. Instead, it came down to a single screwed up call by the OC on a single play.
They barely, barely pulled it out at the last second.

(16,199 posts)Seriously. I doubt you watched any season games. I did, and have, for years.
BTW - Brady set a record for completions in a Superbowl.

(60,015 posts)third down efficiency - 8 of 14 (squawks were 3 of 10).
Ball control offense - they had it for over 33 minutes.

(15,429 posts)Completely fucked up call.
You don't put the ball in the air in that situation. Not even the worst high school coach would have made that call.

(12,540 posts)best Super Bowl I've have seen since the Raiders (my team) beat Minnesota in '77. I was there!

And credit to the Patriots rookie for the pick.

(27,985 posts)No, that just isn't true. That they won is true. That they were playing against what you insinuate is a loser team, is not true.

(42,714 posts)Noticeably worse than all season? What season?
On the season, Brady completed 64 percent of his passes. In this game, he completed 74 percent. For the season, the Pats gained 258 yards/game passing. This game? Well over 300 yards. Four touchdown passes. And all of that against the number one defense in the NFL.
That comment is so ridiculous.

(42,770 posts)and after - extremely better after. don't think anyone is saying they are not good - it's just that now, thankfully they won't be "great" anymore.

(14,400 posts)how in the hell that evil bastard Bill Belichick figured out how to pipe in fake crowd noise into the Atlanta Falcons games.
He's friggin' Dr. Evil man, all he needs is sharks with laser beams and the world is his.

(39,961 posts)unbeatable team in the league.
It's really too bad that the Patriots had correctly inflated footballs today.
Maybe if they threw basketballs or baseballs it would have made their defense be less awesome, and if their tackles each had a ball and chain around their legs it might have been more fair.
That would be fair, right? You shouldn't go into a game with a strategy, and having players that are actually good going into the game. You should bench everyone that plays well because it might hurt the feelings of the other team when they lose.
Seattle was robbed.

(39,961 posts)The Patriots got the win because they fought for it, have superior players and earned it. Tom Brady is probably the best quarterback on the field, and it pisses other players off when he outsmarts and outplays them.

(16,199 posts)Its quite possible the air is being let out of DeflateGate.
New details have surfaced in the NFLs investigation into whether or not the New England Patriots cheated in the AFC Championship game by using deflated footballs. According to NFL Networks Ian Rappoport, previous reports of 11 of 12 footballs being under-inflated by two pounds are incorrect a detail first reported by ESPNs Chris Mortensen.

(42,714 posts)Just as the reports about the Colts defensive back being the one that blew the whistle because he could tell the ball he picked off was under inflated turned out to be fiction, I have been wondering when it would turn out that the unconfirmed reports about 11/12 balls being 2.0 psi low would also turn out to be less than completely accurate.

(108,980 posts)not to have Marshawn Lynch run the ball a yard.
rpannier
(24,329 posts)The Patriots came up big when it counted, Seattle did not in this game
You cannot prove that a hand-off to Lynch would have definitely resulted in a touchdown any more than I could prove that if Seattle scored a td, NE would have driven down the field in 30 seconds and won the game
That's why he went for the pass. There was only about 20 seconds left on the clock and it takes longer to set up after a run. Throw the ball and if it's incomplete it stops the clock. He thought he could get another play if he missed on the pass.
The Pats had been pretty good at stopping Lynch at the goal line.
It only seemed like a bad idea because it didn't work. Everyone would have been singing his praises for the genius of the play had it worked.
My opinion, Wilson should have taken it in. Brady would have.

(871 posts)heard that one yet!
I do have to say, I am ecstatic that the Patriots won the Super Bowl! I could not believe the nastiness, towards the Patriots, that popped up after the idiotic under-inflated ball charges were thrown at them.
The petty jealousy, and sour grapes, behind the charge was readily apparent. IMO

(135,425 posts)"cheating" in order to make more money on bets on the game. People who wouldn't have bet against the Patriots decided to do so because they thought that flu-riddled Brady couldn't hold on to a "regular" ball.
I say find the person who FIRST brought this non-issue to the fore--they're probably the one who let the air out of the balls -- if anyone even did. And who knows, if they're driving a new car or buying a new house, maybe someone who makes their money off taking bets tossed a little vig their way....
