Raspberry Pi 2 unveiled with faster processor and more memory (BBC)

A new budget-priced Raspberry Pi computer has been unveiled, offering child coders and others a faster processor and more memory than before, but at about the same price.

The Raspberry Pi 2 Model B is roughly six times more powerful than the prior version, the Model B+, according to the British charity behind it.

Previous versions of the kit have been widely adopted by schools and enthusiasts across the world.

But the Pi faces increased competition.

Another UK-based firm, Imagination, recently released a bare-bones computer of its own, and the Arduino, Intel Galileo, Gizmo 2, BeagleBone Black and Hummingboard also form part of a growing list of rivals.

Hopefully this version's hardware is open source. ( The last one wasn't, at least as of a year ago or so. )

2. Beaglebones are all open source hardware and software.

Plus the arduino space is full of multiple vendors supplying pin and form factor compatible really cheap devices.

... I keep saying that about the Pi, but every time I say do I acquire some computer that's better than my current computer, a computer that someone else has disposed of as useless trash because it got bogged down by malware and Microsoft cruft.
