Lindsey Graham: Send 10,000 U.S. Ground Troops to Fight Islamic State

The South Carolina Republican said airstrikes wouldn't stop the terrorist group.

Excerpt:

Senator Lindsey Graham wants to put 10,000 "boots on the ground" to confront the Islamic State

The South Carolina Republican, who on Thursday premiered a political action committee aimed at exploring a run for president, told Face the Nation on Sunday that the terrorist organization could launch an attack on the U.S. that would be like "Paris on steroids" and that the group won't stop executing hostages aide workers and journalists until "they're degraded and destroyed."

"An aerial campaign will not destroy them," Graham said. "You're going to need boots on the ground, not only in Iraq, but in Syria."

Host Norah O'Donnell said the Islamic State effectively controls 20,000 square miles in those two countries, and the group released a video on Friday that appears to show the execution of Japanese hostage Kenji Goto. Graham called Iraq and Syria the "best platforms to launch an attack on (the) United States" since 9/11.

Funny how we're still perpetuating that decade-old myth: if we send troops there, then nobody will come to the US on a commercial flight and cause mayhem here.

You'd need a broad coalition with more than 100,000 troops to adequately deal with ISIS, and you'd have massive casualties doing so, too.

our troops are worn out. They are tired of fighting. How about taking care of the troops you already got fucked up here Lindsey. All war mongers should be the first to go. Show America what real heroes you are.

ISIS formerly known as Al-Qaeda in Iraq main goal is to overthrow a government in a Muslim majority country. Ground troops show up indiscriminately killing all military aged males & civilian casualties from bombs is a recruiting`bonanza. Throw in some indefinite detention & maybe some torture spies will be sure not to record evidence & more terrorists. Defeat them by providing aid to refugees, rebuild infrastructure, rebuild our image in the world.

Just showing up & causing more chaos isn't going to help. "174,000 Iraqis reported killed between 2003 and 2013, with between 112,000-123,000 of those killed being civilian noncombatants." according to Iraq body count.

Apart from feeding the beast, there are dozens of ISIS/Al-Qaeda affiliates active in several different countries and plus the odds favor the next terrorist attack coming from an ISIS militant who hops on Twitters convinces someone here to do an attack local aided by some shocking propaganda videos & cult-like influence, also the Sharia law Islamaphobe protestors factor into that or even those that give looks of contempt to someone wearing Muslim garb on public transportation.

We need to work smarter, not harder since we aren't going anywhere with that. Psych 'em out, not be obvious dupes to their propaganda. They're baiting us & many other foreign governments for the reasons listed above.
