We finally got down to $2.02 a gallon three days ago, and when I went by the gas station today it went from $2.02 a gallon to $2.14 a gallon. I thought that to be a sizable jump in such a short time.

(3,595 posts)There was a surge in oil price at the end of last week but price of oil seems to have declined since then.
I used to keep track of the oil prices but they kept falling so I stopped tracking.

(32,688 posts)Prices, at virtually every station in my town jumped 20 cents 6 days ago and has dropped back 2 cents in the last two days. The majority of stations are Marathon/Speedway, Shell and BP.
As the refineries that are facing the strike are Marathon and Shell, it tends to make me think that they were planning to force a strike and got a jump on prices.
Google "Speedway effect".

(205,467 posts)I got gas on Friday, though I didn't need a lot, since there was a "gas sale" (5-cents off a gallon) at one of the places I usually get gas. It was $2.30 a gallon, the cheapest I've seen it around here, but I'm in New York, and our gas prices are among the highest. It hasn't gone up here yet, but it looks like prices going down are a thing of the past...
Gasoline prices have flattened and now begin their first-quarter climb
The national average price of gasoline has increased 2.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.05/gal.
Although the national average has decreased 15.7 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 122.7 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago, "the four-month slide in gasoline prices has indeed come to a halt. A reduction in refinery output has been matched in recent weeks by sharp increases in wholesale gasoline prices," said Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.
From Jan. 7 up to this morning, wholesale prices on average are up 23 cents per gallon so there's no doubt now that the first-quarter climb is under way and is already being reflected in rising prices at the pump."
