Must he not resign.. How does he not???http://www.stripes.com/nbc-s-brian-williams-recants-iraq-story-after-soldiers-protest-1.327792
UPDATE: Brians Heartfelt Apology?
How could have he been honest when all he did was lie in order to make himself
look like a tough war time correspondent...

(19,326 posts)if he resigns over such an inconsequential 'mis-statement'.
i'd miss him if he does resign.

(21,646 posts)That is a strange syndrome but it starts with false embellishment then becomes truth to the person in their head
Fox is one big false memory creator too if you think about how they portray historical events
Didn't Clinton do something similar ? Will he resign? doubt it
" when we deeply lose ourselves or negate what authentically and compassionately feels to be 'us'; to the degree that we no longer recognize the experience, our voice, the memory or even the view of ourselves.

(1,285 posts)They pretty much have a vicious right wing slant to them. What few I read, nobody was defending Williams.

(2,382 posts)... after a lifetime of working for corporate interests that abhor truth the way the Wicked Witch of the West abhorred water, a variant of the Stockholm Syndrome sets in and one starts to believe one's own bullshit. His mea culpas ain't gonna cut it this time, though. I strongly suspect that ol' Brian's gonna choose to "spend more time with his family." That is, if they haven't changed the locks.

(239 posts)whose work tools are his intellect, voice, people skills, computers and cameras and throw him into the middle of a chaotic war zone and I can imagine the terror and stress he or any other civilian might feel. They embed these journalists with the military but that doesn't insulate them from the fear and feel of war and sights of war. I won't watch a lot of videos like the pilot being set on fire because I know it would be horrifying and once you witness something even on video.... So, I'm perfectly comfortable cutting Williams some slack.

(9,894 posts)Maybe he lied, but I get how what he says happened could happen. More and more studies are showing just how unreliable and easily confused the bit of ephemera we call our memories can be.

(1,423 posts)It would be a step up in credibility from NBC. "Close hold Brian, close hold." (What Williams was told to do when they got Bin Laden and notified him on the phone.)

(20,002 posts)When putting the story together he would have to know that the story would get back to some of the other people who were involved like the hero of the story and his own crew. I really don't think he's stupid enough to fabricate a big lie about it.

(42,748 posts)Including a description of the events by the pilot of the Chinook in which Williams was riding. His version doesn't support everything Williams says, but it does support the contention that the chopper in which Williams was riding was part of a formation of choppers that came under fire and that two of them, including the one Williams was in, were hit by small arms fire (but only the lead chopper, not the one that Williams was in, was hit by an RPG).
