It's insane what the businesses have to go through.

The Anti-Deficiency Act, a rider that Congress tacked on to another bill, makes it illegal for local government officials and legislators to spend money on things of which Congress disapproves. So a recent hearing on cannabis in D.C. was cancelled because the AG of D.C. was afraid the city officials and staff would get in trouble.

It's incredible how hateful and cruel our administration, our federal attorney general, our IRS and Congress are when it comes to cannabis. Greed is a powerful GOD.

But Forbes calls cannabis the startup for 2015, and many universities are offering classes and programs so there is that. Some day, the will of the people - and not the will of Big Pharm, Big Beer, CCA and the DEA - will prevail.

Until then, there's a lot of money not being earned, a lot of people in pain, and a lot of people suffering in jail for imbibing in a substance less dangerous than legal alcohol.

But we will overcome. My avatar stays until it's legal all over the US.

are making a profit within 12 months.

They just can't put all the dough in banks until the issues are resolved. Can't deduct normal business expenses, only cost of goods sold. Can't even declare bankruptcy.

Legal cannabis is making a fortune, but yeah, most of the cannabis $$ in the US is in the hands of the nefarious until we make it legal across the board.

No doubt they are collecting fed/state taxes - but are the employees included in social security? Are they able to deduct the costs of employment - or is that the same as rent/insurance/etc?

Only cost of goods sold. They can get around paying exorbitant taxes by selling non-cannabis goods and deducting expenses related to that, but it's tricky.

The sad things for employees is that they are often being paid in cash because of the banks' trepidation to run afoul of federal laws. This is not safe for those employees, nor is it safe for businesses who must handle large amounts of cash without banks.

The feds and COngress, by being more eager to fellate Big Pharm and Big Beer and Big Prison and ALEC, are putting hardworking labor and business owners at risk.

It's really infuriating that they figured out how to handle a far worse substance - alcohol - without all the extraneous, hypocritical bullshit, so they COULD make this work if they didn't have such hard-ons for the GREEDY CONTROL FREAKS.

People should beware of the hype.

Here are 3 examples taken from Forbes.com article
"Meet The 8 Hottest Publicly Traded Marijuana Companies" published November 14 2014:

ABATTIS BIOCEUTICALS
OTCMKTS:ATTBF
Mar 21 2014 $2.210
Feb 10 2015 $0.14

GreenGro Technologies, Inc.
OTCMKTS:GRNH
Mar 21 2014 $0.58
Feb 10 2015 $0.09

MySkin Inc formerly United Cannabis Corp
OTCBB:CNAB
Mar 21 2104 $16.20
Feb 10 2015 $1.55

Charts for the above:

Some will win no doubt but people should do their due diligence. I know of more than a few people that have lost money they shouldn't have bet in the first place. And that's all it is at this point, a bet.

Four Charged in Marijuana Stock ‘Pump-and-Dump’ Manipulation Scheme
August 6, 2014

NEW YORK, NY — U.S. authorities on Tuesday charged four stock promoters with civil fraud for manipulating the securities of marijuana-related and other microcap companies, and three were hit with criminal charges over their trades in a penny stock.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said Mikhail Galas, Alexander Hawatmeh, Christopher Mrowca and Tovy Pustovit made more than $2.5 million by buying six thinly traded stocks and then artificially driving up their prices through a so-called “pump-and-dump” scheme...

Marijuana Possesses a Unique Margin of Safety Compared to Other legal and Illegal Drugs

Despite the US federal government’s ongoing insistence that pot is one of the most dangerous substances known to man, an objective review of the plant’s safety profile finds that it is comparably safer than most other drugs, particularly alcohol.

Writing in Nature.com this past January, an international team of German and Canadian researchers published a comparative risk assessment of the toxicity of tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis. Their evaluation concluded that the risks of cannabis have likely been “overestimated” while the dangers associated with booze “have been commonly underestimated.”

They concluded: “[Our] results point to risk management prioritization toward alcohol and tobacco rather than illicit drugs. … [and] suggest a strict legal regulatory approach [for cannabis] rather than the current prohibition approach.”
