Gasoline prices at the pump are up 12 cents nationally and 15 cents in Nebraska in the past week, and analysts say a number of factors are behind the uptick.
Nationally, a gallon of regular unleaded rose from $2.06 to $2.18. In Nebraska, a gallon went from $2 to $2.15, and in Iowa, it increased from $2 to $2.11.
Omahas prices also rose 15 cents over the past week. Tuesday, two Omaha filling stations were selling regular unleaded for as low as $2.02 a gallon and several others were selling it for $2.08.
Chief among those factors impacting prices, said Gregg Lakoski, a senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, is the rise in the price of a barrel of oil, which has gone from $50 a barrel a week ago to almost $53 a barrel Tuesday.
