21. And knowing all that, you "chose" to drop your turd in this particular punch bowl?
|
I'm sorry, you could've moved on, but I suspect your post was more about chastising other DU'ers for something you consider trivial and/or worthless. It's called the shame game. Some very valuable DU'ers were run off from this site because of the treatment they received at the hands of folks like yourself. I, for one, enjoyed the pic threads, and more importantly I cared about the people who posted them. Not everything has to be earth shatteringly serious all the time. The president and first lady are under enormous pressure & scrutiny 24/7, so I don't begrudge them evenings like this, even if their critics think it's frivolous. This thread would have been perfectly okay without your negative input. |

|
Self-delete is a neat little trick for posters who get cold feet. They get their message out, they get replies, and self delete before it goes to a jury, thereby avoiding the dreaded "hidden post". Depending on who you are, self delete is both a blessing and a curse. The poster in question is a master at this game.

|
We certainly don't, and it's hard to trust anything posted by someone who makes unfounded claims, and refuses to apologize and/or retract when proven wrong. We all makes mistakes, but when a pattern emerges, you have to assume that honesty & integrity are just collateral damage in the furtherance of one's personal agenda.

Just look at the wonderful things the affluent wear. It's so chic and ruling class! Of course, you don't flaunt your wealth and class status when doing a photo op at Target. 103. Think a little deeper.
|
Fashion, with brands numbering in the thousands and costing from little to big bucks, creates thousands upon thousands of jobs and gives young people who love the industry hope for a career. And yes, if you know WHAT LOOKS GOOD, you can dress at Target with a similar style and look just as good. My daughter could take a $10, thrift store outfit and accesorize it, and she would look fantastic. She did all throughout high school, when our dollars were in very short supply.
If Mrs. Obama sets a beautiful example, I love it! We don't all have to look like we were dressed by Chairman Mao. |

I always felt sorry for Laura Bush - drugged and demoted to a doting wife rather than a vibrant, effective first lady.
I'm not comparing Laura's education or life experience against Michelle's as an attorney. That would be unfair. But Michelle turns heads and is a perfect complement and partner to a terrific President. |

|
They were always short, like just below the waist but she didn't have the type figure for that style. I know that because I do have that kind of figure. It's a very specific body type that can wear that length.
She needed some some good fashion advice. If she had had that she could have looked lovely. Her face is beautiful and she isn't an odd shape that would be difficult to outfit. She has a good head of hair. If anyone was crying out for a makeover, it was Laura Bush. |

54. I thought they were both hilarious.
|
Kimmel was quick - not waiting for laugh lines, so very funny but quite staccato. Tomorrow, you will definitely see headlines about the President's dog joke (difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom is that a pit bull is tasty or something). Michelle even looked down at her plate like yeah, I would have let that one go, but all in all, the President and Kimmel both did a great job.
Hope you can catch it on a replay? |

|
But I guess it really reflects the abuser's character. Be rude and dismissive to others, get a reaction and then delete it so it can't be used against you. What a squirelly, chickenshit thing to do.

It's a cowardly practice, and if the admins won't do something about it, then we as a community certainly should. The practice of starting a thread, getting a ton of replies, and when you get owned, you can just pretend you never posted falsehoods and/or misinformation in the first place?

anything with impunity including personal attacks on other DU'ers, but by God if one attempted to reply in return it was Deleted Message City. Not sure if the Guardian Mod is still around now that we have juries instead of moderators, so that might be one small improvement on DU3 over DU2.

97. The fact that the poster has on occasion, claimed to be a "journalist" really bothers me.
|
This same poster posted a very incendiary article re: our involvement behind Syrian lines, and when some very astute DU'ers went to work to get to the root of the story, it was discovered that the story was created out of wholecloth from a facebook posting, which turned out to be false on every count. And after receiving a ton of replies, did the poster apologize? NO! She "self-deleted", after getting her a** handed to her on a platter, thereby shutting down the discussion. It's dishonest at best, and inciteful at the very worst. And she never has to apologize for getting caught making shit up.
A "journalist" stands by their story, or they issue a retraction. Self-delete does away with the need to be held accountable, and that's just sad. |

98. Self delete does away with being held accountable...
|
I agree with this. I think the self delete does have a purpose. If you post something and then realize it was out of line or counter productive, self delete is ok. But when you fill a thread when nastiness you shouldn't get to erase the evidence, you should have to own what you said. You don't get to take your ball and go home.
This person didn't think they were out of line, quite the opposite in fact. They should be held accountable. IMO |

If she were 250 lbs she would still be lovely. No one ever said her looks are what made her special. You assumed that part. edited for spelling as well as an unnecessary jab. |

128. But it is superficial just by definition.

Superficial means 'at the skin level'. Saying she looks nice is superficial. The word has a negative connotation that you, or we, give it. But saying someone looks nice is superficial.
Not that there's anything wrong with looking nice or being superficial. |

129. The one does not deny the other
|
"Her looks are not what make her so special..."
The one does not deny the other; hence, one may fully appreciate the one without being predicated on or necessitated to premise the other. "Deserve" a thread? You of course have collated an objective and peer-reviewed list of what does or does not deserve a list? Or (and I find this rather more likely), you are merely basing your disinterest on a subjective premise, thus being guilty of the very thing your indict others for... (Pogo was right you know-- you should try it sometime...) |

The first lady gets more beautiful all the time. I think she has had a great influence on the young and old ladies in this country, black, white, etc. And they in turn send those messages to their children or relatives. I used to teach many years ago. I would love to be in a classroom today to see how she and her husband have created a different view for youngsters of all colors. I see this on the news, and I read the articles online. I see them in public. What a change! I'm so glad that we have a black president and family in the WH.
I do hope they will be in the WH again for 4 more years. Let's all vote for President Obama. Fran |
