Amazon vs. Walmart - is one worse than the other?

I've been a Walmart snob for years, but is Amazon really any better? Both are anti-union, anti-labor. Both hurt local businesses. Amazon offers an outlet for booksellers & other retailers. Does that make them better?

It took Walmart decades to accomplish what Amazon will do in just a few years.

so while they treat their employees like the Walmart workers, their are people who sort of work for them who set their own hours and terms of employment. This doesn't excuse Amazon for it's slave labor tactics though. But, they do have that one portion of their business that is not available to a Walmart employee unless they are a seller on Amazon as well.

I've purchased books for 99¢ plus $3.99 shipping. I'm sure it doesn't cost $4 to ship a book, but that is still not much profit.

I've found a couple of really great retailers through Amazon. There's a little gourmet food shop that has many items I can't find locally. Have you ever had ginger syrup in your tea? Oh my.

The Post Office takes a cut of that plus shipping materials are not cheap.

I have a friend who is leaving his Wal-Mart job soon because he and his wife are earning so much on their Amazon selling job.

(Seriously, he just told me this Monday)

Walmart delights in killing local small biz, Amazon delights in killing independent bookstores, thereby aiding Waltons' destruction if local, small biz. Hell, Amazon's even killing reasonable big booksellers (Borders).
