It's all about, and always about, the money.

(22,380 posts)that it is not all that personal. The hatred spreads to others who don't look or think like them.
I myself as a rule can spot "them" by their looks, and spot their thoughts when they open their mouths.
So
I
too
have prejudices.
But I don't hate them. I live in the South in a neighborhood of many progressive folks, and I honestly love the diversity of all around me.
i don't hide who I am whether I bring up a controversial subject, or if one flies in my face. And I have not had any major problems, except I keep forgetting people are carrying guns.
On a brighter note: I am not wealthy. But I live in a neighborhood so diverse that if I leave my house and walk less than ten minutes the house of a major MSNBC weekend anchor person has been reached.

(19,565 posts)They're not a bunch of ignorant fools, ok? It's like another minority, remove the ones who vote wedge issues (single issue) and they're people who lean largely Democratic.

(99,710 posts)Did you see the movie on Cesar Chavez?
My favorite part is when the farm owner asks if they are Communists? And Chavez laughs and says "He says we are communistas. We are Catholics."

(51,076 posts)I remember the battles these two took to the powers to be
and they won, sort of. with the rich and well connectedthe war is never won cause they will rise again to fight the same battles that we've already won and once if they do win they won't let us regroup. Very unfair

(38,317 posts)The Church is very forceful in it's support of immigrant rights.
There are all-white Republican parishes where the priests choose not to speak of the Church's position, and I've attended Mass in places like that, churches sparsely attended by "conservative" mostly older Republicans, but in any cosmopolitan Catholic community social justice for immigrants, documented or not, is a frequent topic.

(99,710 posts)But my experience is a bit different than yours. I have been in working class Catholic churches and middle and upper middle class Catholic churches and I saw the same emphasis on the Social Gospel.
