The owners of the cabin that burned down during the final showdown between ex-LAPD Officer Christopher Dorner and law enforcement in 2013 will be paid $200,000 for their loss.
The cabin in the Angelus Oaks neighborhood of Big Bear burned down Feb. 12, 2013, after the San Bernardino County Sheriffs SWAT team fired in gas that ignited and consumed the building in fire.

Dorner was spotted trying to make his escape from the mountain and was chased into a cabin belonging to Candace Martin and Eric Funnell where authorities surrounded him and engaged in a dramatic gun battle that left a San Bernardino County sheriffs deputy dead.
Dorner shot himself in the cabins basement as the building went up in flames.
In a claim against San Bernardino County, Martin and Funnell sought compensation for their cabin, attorneys fees and emotional distress. The $200,000 will be paid out by March 5, according to a copy of the agreement.

I could be wrong, but it's just a hunch.

They decided to burn the cabin down
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)He had already killed one deputy while retreating into the cabin, darkness was falling and LE was afraid that he could slip through their lines and escape again, killing more people, LE didn't DECIDE to burn down the cabin, Dorner DECIDED to die rather than surrender and face charges in a court of law.
Why are you blaming LE for the actions of the murderous Dorner?
Were gonna go ahead with the plan with the burner. The burners deployed and we have a fire. Burn that fucking house down. Fucking burn this motherfucker. And, Because the fire is contained, Im gonna let that heat burn through the basement, officers were stated over the police scanner
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)Do you even know what a burner is?
Regardless, Dorner is responsible for the death of Dorner. he had ample opportunities to surrender, instead, he decided to keep on killing and refusing to surrender.
Quit blaming LE for the actions of Dorner.
glasshouses
(484 posts)the one they deployed they knew was going to start a fire any where it landed inside a home
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)but they didn't deploy it to start a fire.
Once again, you're blaming LE for the actions of Dorner.

(9,951 posts)is responsible for the death of Dorner? He had ample opportunity to surrender in the days he was on the run killing people, sorry, but I'm not blaming LE in the least for Dorner being dead.
BTW, Dorner took his own life rather than surrender, he never had any intention of giving up to face charges in a court of law.

(484 posts)Burners is a term they use for smoke canisters , two types
In this audio you can here the cop say "Burn it Down"
They knew what this type of smoke grenade was going to do deployed inside a home.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)You're hearing that because you want to blame LE for the death of Dorner, when in reality, Dorner is responsible for the death of Dorner.

(9,951 posts)Was that person in charge? Did he have the authority to deploy the canisters?
Given the tense situation, and the fact that Dorner had already shot and killed several LE, I'm not going to condemn the cops for their actions that day on the mountain.
glasshouses
(484 posts)I guess you can go on believing what you want to believe but....
I'm pretty sure you being an intelligent person and ex military you have come to the conclusion that the police
had every intention of burning the cabin down with the method they choose to deploy.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)burn that motherfucker, that's it. And was that person the commanding officer in charge? Or just a pissed off cop who had saw other cops murdered by Dorner?
You sure seem to be trying to blame the cops for Dorner's death.
Where's the rest of what you claimed was said by LE

(484 posts)You heard the tapes
This isn't about if Donner deserved to die by the state for murder.
If you support the death penalty then clearly he was guilty of premeditated murder.
This is about a tactic the police used that day that they knew would result in the wooden cabin going up in flames.
glasshouses
(484 posts)you can hear them say we are going to burn him out.
They knew when you pop 7 burners inside a wooden structure it's going to burn down

Oh wah that Dorner died a violent death at his own hands, I, and the vast majority of Americans didn't lose any sleep with that POS's death.

(26,582 posts)Can't temember which, but it's in a park (state or national). The cabins were permitted to be there in order to increase visitation to the park.
Most likely answer, they did an appraisal based on the cabin before the fire, and it was much less than what the owner thought it was worth.

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Autopsy-Report-Confirms-Suicide-for-Christopher-Dorner-278095681.html
The report confirms what sheriff's officials had said about how Dorner died on Feb. 12, 2013 and sheds light on his final moments.
The autopsy revealed that a single gunshot wound, from a handgun, caused Dorner's death and that he had barricaded himself inside the basement of a cabin in the Big Bear area.

he was the villain, not a victim.
So, in short the media is correct and your version is not.

(38,316 posts)Restarting family traditional properties usually costs at least twice, maybe three times "replacement" cost.
They might have starved, thirsted, or forced this guy out by simple sleep deprivation, but they did not.
Surround the house, cut the power and water, and wait. That's the proper way handle a situation like this.
$200,000 seems cheap.
