OMFG!!Broward deputy drags cuffed woman through courthouse hallway by her feet

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/fort-lauderdale/fl-dragged-through-court-20150223-story.html
<snip>

A veteran Broward Sheriff's deputy who dragged a mentally incompetent woman through a courthouse hallway by the shackles around her ankles is now on restricted duty.

Christopher Johnson, who joined the department in 1988, will not have contact with inmates until an Internal Affairs investigation is complete, the Sheriff's Office said.

Johnson was recorded pulling Dasyl Jeanette Rios, 28, by the chain binding her feet together on the third floor of the Broward courthouse Monday morning.

"I am concerned by the way the deputy handled this situation, because there were other courses of action he could have taken," Sheriff Scott Israel said. "Internal Affairs has initiated a complete and comprehensive investigation, and the deputy has been placed on restricted duty pending the outcome."

The incident was caught on cell phone video by attorney Bill Gelin, who was in the hallway as the events unfolded. Witnesses and some who saw the video afterward decried the deputy's conduct as inhumane. Public Defender Howard Finkelstein called it criminal.

This was inhumane and criminal. Who are these animals?

I guess it's a good thing he didn't shoot her in a public building. But he stil needs to go find a job doing something else.

*sigh* I'm sure that will be productive. It will go to the DA, who will want no part of prosecuting a cop, so he will function as the defense attorney in front of the grand jury, and nothing will happen.

but I'm not jaded by Ferguson or anything.

which the lack of for Ferguson did not help bring about which might have been why the Ferguson PD did not have their vehicles equipped with cameras if you think about it.

Let's face it, this crap has been going on for... well... basically the entire history of humanity, but VERY rarely in the public eye. This is on people's radar now, and I don't think will be so easy to sweep under the rug. This is me trying to be optimistic.

There have been incidents where people where not hired for being too smart. Seriously, you can Google it. I'd link some but it's a pain to do from my phone. It shouldn't be too hard to find.

THIS DEPUTY NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OFF THE FORCE. IF THIS IS HOW HE TREATS AN INMATE WHO WAS JUST DECLARED INCOMPETENT IN PUBLIC, I COULD ONLY IMAGINE WHAT GOES ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. AWARENESS NEEDS TO BE RAISED FOR THIS WOMEN AND ALL OTHER INMATES WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM MENTAL ILLNESSES. SHE HAS A FAMILY AND A RIGHT. SHE IS NOT AN ANIMAL AND SHE WAS NOT VIOLENT. DEPUTY JOHNSON "FEARED SHE MAY HAVE CAUSED A COMMOTION", BUT LOOK WHO CAUSED ALL THE COMMOTION. I PRAY THEY THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATE THIS CASE AND THAT JUSTICE IS SERVED. PEOPLE, WHETHER THEY ARE PRISONERS, MENTALLY ILL, OR ANYTHING SHOULD BE TREATED IN THIS WAY. IT IS INHUMANE AND CRIMINAL. HIS POOR WOMAN IS SUFFERING FROM ENOUGH AS IS. DEALING WITH HER MENTAL ISSUES, NOT GETTING THE TREATMENT OR MEDICATION SHE NEEDS, AND NOW THIS IT IS UNFAIR AND INHUMANE AND CRIMINAL!!!

and sorry I did...this inmate may have some mental health issues and I'm sure there has to be a protocol for dealing with difficult inmates. What's even more disgusting is the other officers seem fine with it. I'm sure this type of inhumane behavior happens all the time, it's just this time it was caught on tape.
