(81,231 posts)It's truly sad that he's gone. I'm sad. On a personal level I'm sad about this. I'm old enough to remember the original series. Loved it! It was always nice, even comforting, to know he was always there. That was happily realized by the way he kept turning up in the "Star Trek" universe. Now, there's a noticeable void.

1966 - 1969, Star Trek hit on many social issues by way of science fiction. The first, on interracial kiss, black/white on the face in constant hatred and war against a race with opposite markings, and so forth.

(4,741 posts)Apparently, and I can't find a citation at the moment, the direction was for them to just embrace - but in every shot besides the kiss, Shatner looked directly at the camera and made all sorts of hilarious, inappropriate faces, leaving the kiss as the only shot that could possibly be aired.
Might not be a true story, but it warms the cockles of myncold, dark heart regardless
