Netanyahu Speech Flops As Democratic Senators Withdraw Their Support For Iran Bill

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech to Congress continues to backfire, as key Democratic senators have withdrawn their support for a Senate bill that would have reviewed any nuclear agreement with Iran.

The Washington Post reported:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/03/04/bipartisan-bill-to-review-iran-deal-is-now-looking-a-lot-less-bipartisan/

If Hill Republicans thought Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Tuesday address would build broad support for having Congress review any nuclear deal with Iran, they thought wrong.

By the end of the day Tuesday, key Democratic senators had pulled their support for just such a bill after Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced he was fast-tracking the legislation, bringing it to the Senate floor for debate as soon as next week, short-circuiting committee deliberations that Democrats say are necessary to perfect it.

Sen. Bob Menendez announced on the Senate floor last night that he was pulling his support for the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act. Menendez said, “There is no emergency, this deal – if there is one – won’t be concluded until almost summer. Let’s do this the right way. I know I cannot object to the Rule 14 process under the rules, but I say to my colleagues, if this is the process then I will have no choice but to use my voice and vote against any motion to proceed to the bill.”

What did the speech accomplish? If anything, it just weakened the American-Israeli relationship because Israel now has less support among Dems.

And Obama is pressing ahead with the Iran negotiations anyways.

I'm not remotely anti - Israel but I'm completely missing the "win" in the effort for the US.

If Israel feels a war with Iran is that fucking critical then they have more than enough capacity.

The arrogance of Israel's leader coming here and talking directly to our Congress against the expressed wishes of the President is astounding and extremely offensive.

I have nothing in particular against Israel. Nor do I see good reason to have anything particular good will for them. The special relationship is now officially dysfunctional, and corrective action is required.

Israel should be treated like any other country, no better no worse. Step 1 on the corrective path is to cut off the money. If they're big enough boys to strut into Congress in defiance of our system of government, then they're big enough to stand on their own two feet.

How many times have we seen this by now, just these two months or so that these idiots and nincompoops have been in charge? How many different ways were they just sure they were about to have either the President or the Democrats at the end of a fork, only to wind up there, themselves?

And THESE are the dingdongs to whom the voters saw fit to hand the reins of power on Capitol Hill. They make the "gang who couldn't shoot straight" look like Olympic shooting champions.

I don't agree with all the ways Obama has dealt with Republicans, but he is better at politics (and generally not being a gigantic idiot) than they are.

It's funny watching him jog lazy circles around their stupidity.
